NASCAR Busch North & Featherlite Modified: Loudon Preview

Loudon, NH — Two of NASCAR’s most popular regional touring series will be featured in the Country Music Twin 100’s set for Saturday, September 13 at New Hampshire International Speedway. The NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour and the NASCAR Busch North Series, Grand National Division will provide the support card to Sunday’s NASCAR Winston Cup event. Two championships will be decided in these races.

While both series can point to ongoing close series championship battles, a unique superspeedway championship is on line in each series, and will be decided when the dust settles on Saturday afternoon.

Ironically, both Jan Leaty of Williamson, N.Y. and Jerry Marquis of Broad Brook, Conn. have scored the same number of points in their respective series. Leaty leads the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour track championship with 505 points over Tim Connolly of Endicott, N.Y. while Marquis leads 1996 NASCAR Busch North Series Champion Dave Dion of Hudson, N.H. 505-500 on the NASCAR Busch North Series side of the track championship.

Each series track champion will receive $5,000 with the runner-up in each series winning $3,000 and third-place picking up $2,000. With the championship point fund distribution being determined in these two events, competitors will be racing for over three-quarters of a million dollars on Saturday.

In his quest to win dual NASCAR regional touring series championships, Mike Stefanik of Coventry, R.I. finds himself in fifth place in the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour track championship points and fourth in the NASCAR Busch North Series points championship. He is 54 points out of first on the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour side, and 58 points out of first on the NASCAR Busch North Series side of things.

A good afternoon of racing could easily find Stefanik in the top-three on each series, collecting two separate checks from track owner Bob Bahre who introduced this unique program which crowns the only superspeedway track champions in the country.

The high-speed drafting of the NASCAR Featherlite Modified Tour and the fender-rubbing action of the NASCAR Busch North Series will provide the perfect appetizer for a weekend of NASCAR racing, although some would say that Saturday’s offerings are a meal in themselves.
