Late Model Champion – Gary Pelletier Injured

Stafford Springs, CT — Defending Stafford Motor Speedway Late Model champion, Gary Pelletier suffered significant injuries during a turn-one crash in the 30-lap Late Model feature on June 26th. Pelletier incurred a broken right scapula in addition to a bruised sternum, knee and wrist.

“We’re done for the season,” said Pelletier from his home in Hartford, Connecicut on Monday, June 29th. “Besides my shoulder, the car and engine are a total loss.”

Phil DiMario Wins ARDC Feature in Virginia

Hampton, Va., June 28 – Phil DiMario was the fastest Midget in the ARDC CARQUEST Midget field on Saturday night at the Langley Speedway in Hampton, Virginia. DiMario of Piermont, New York finished second last week in the ARDC/NEMA Mini-Indy race at Flemington Speedway and improved on that position to win the first race in the ARDC southern tour schedule.

Bill Ertel of Tom's River, New Jersey took the lead at the start of the 25 lap feature and led for 12 circuits until the 1996 ARDC Champion, Phil DiMario, became the new leader on lap 13. DiMario held off the reining ARDC champion, Ed Stimely, Jr., for the victory.

The win was DiMario's first feature win of 1998. DiMario became the seventh different feature winner in ARDC CARQUEST Midget racing in the 1998 season.

Brett Bodine Returns to Stafford Motor Speedway July 17th

Stafford Springs, CT — NASCAR Winston Cup Series regular Brett Bodine will revisit the Stafford Motor Speedway on Friday night, July 17th. Bodine’s visit coincides with the ‘Stafford Salutes NASCAR at 50′ program and its’ selection of the 50 Greatest Modified Drivers of All-time, of which Brett is included. “It’s an absolute privilege to be recognized for this honor,” said Bodine from the offices of Scandia-Bodine Racing in Mooresville, NC. “My time at Stafford and in the Modified division was a short but special period in my career. It’s refreshing to know it hasn’t been forgotten. I anxiously await to accept this honor.”
