Sixth Race-August 11th at Scotia Speedworld
HARDWOOD LANDS, NS — Louie Mechalides’ first Pro All Stars Series win was a big one as the Tyngsboro Massachusetts racer drove his Cushman Competition Ford Taurus to victory in the Atlantic Cat 250 at Scotia Speedworld in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Mechalides bested local favorites John Flemming and Dave Gorveatt for the $7, 000.00 payday. PASS points leader Sam Sessions came home in fourth while Larry Gelinas drove all the way to fifth from his 26th place starting spot. Mike MacKenzie, Gary Smith, Scott Alexander, Dan Eddy and Northern Race Tires Rookie of the Race Richie Dearborn rounded out the top ten. A Scotia Speedworld-record 5, 000 race fans witnessed Mechalides’ victory.
Ben Rowe’s shot at a fourth consecutive Pro All Stars victory was foiled by losing a cylinder while leading the race. Canadian favorite Scott Fraser succumbed to brake woes after leading early in the event, while pole starter Shawn Tucker watched the majority of the 250 laps from the sidelines after brushing the wall and damaging his suspension in the early stages.
Dave Gorveatt earned the Sunoco Race Fuels fast time award with a lap of 13.871 seconds, beating out Mike MacKenzie by just five- one thousandths of a second. Tucker earned the number one starting spot by winning the Pole Dash; Adam Friend and Sam Sessions copped heat race wins, while Eric Hudson and Nova Scotian Mike Riley topped the consolation rounds. Rookie contender Thomas Oliphant came home victorious in the Last Chance race. Thirty cars attempted to qualify for the richest PASS event of the season.
