Miller earns pole for Featherlite Modified Series opener

Thompson, CT — L.W. Miller of Dushore, Pa. earned his first career Bud Pole Award in qualifying for Sunday’s Featherlite Modified Series, NASCAR Touring Icebreaker 2002 at Thompson International Speedway. Miller toured the 5/8 mile oval in 18.677 seconds for an average speed of 120.469 miles per hour in the Stateline Auto Auction Chevrolet.

Nevin George of Kunkletown, Pa. was second fastest in the Bruce George Paving Chevrolet with an average speed of 120.353 mph. John Blewett, III of Howell, N.J. qualified third fastest in the Mastrobattisto Contractors Chevrolet with a speed of 120.314 mph. Eddie Flemke of Southington, Conn. and Jerry Marquis of Broad Brook Conn. rounded out the Top-5 in qualifying.

The Top 10 qualifiers drew for starting position for the 150 lap Icebreaker. Tony Ferrante, Jr. of Franklin Sq., N.Y. drew the number one starting position. Charlie Pasteryak of Lisbon, Conn. will start along side Ferrante on the front row. Miller will start fourth.

Defending Icebreaker Champion Rick Fuller of Auburn, Mass. will start 12th. Defending Featherlite Modified Series Champion Mike Stefanik of Coventry, R.I. will start 15th.
