Arena at Harbor Yard to host Arenacross for fourth consecutive year

Bridgeport, CT — Moving into the year 2005, the Arena at Harbor Yard is preparing to host Arenacross for the fourth consecutive year on January 14 – 16, 2005. Bridgeport, Conn., the most populous city in the state, located on the southeast corner of Connecticut is a port on Long Island Sound at the mouth of the Pequonnock.

Bridgeport was founded by famous circus entrepreneur, P.T. Barnum. Barnum, showman turned mayor, made this port city into a major manufacturing center during the 19th century. He spent a lot of his energy improving the steamboat industry since Bridgeport was already an important hub of transportation.

Today the Bridgeport & Port Jefferson Steamboat Company provides daily ferry service between Bridgeport and Port Jefferson, Long Island from their new terminal and docking facility and major transportation hub. Harbor Yard, the new home of the popular Bridgeport Bluefish Professional Baseball team – now the most successful minor league team in the USA and home field for Sacred Heart University.

Arenacross, will move into the Arena at Harbor Yard in January, bringing in over 100 truckloads of dirt, sculpting the hockey arena into an indoor motocross track. Pro races will take place on Friday and Saturday night, competing for a $10,000. Local amateurs are encouraged to test their luck on the track on Sunday, earning points in the New England region towards an invitation to the Amateur Arenacross World Finals in conjunction with the US Open held in Las Vegas, Nevada every October.

Last year, temperatures were below ten degrees outside, but fans were not turned away as the stands were near capacity. Local pro rider Tony Larusso along with Ty Wallace, Jim Chester and Randy Valade swept the top three spots on the podium over the two nights of competition, leaving everyone else behind them and bringing home the big checks.

Show times on Friday and Saturday are at 7:30pm, the doors open at 6:30pm. Sunday’s amateur day will begin at 12:00pm, doors open at 11:00am. A track party will precede Saturday night’s competition where fans will be able to walk the track, meet the competitors and have a chance to win merchandise. Entrance to the track party is free when you pick up a track pass at A-1 Toyota in New Haven, Conn. A track pass and Saturday night event ticket are required for entry into the track party. Track passes will be available on the day of the show at the box office for $5.

Adults can save $5 off their admission by picking up a discount coupon at participating Splash Car Wash locations in Fairfield, Milford, Bridgeport and Stratford. Adults can save $5 off their Friday night Midlevel seats. Offer expires on Thursday, January 13th at close of business, only one coupon per ticket purchased, not valid on previously purchased tickets.

Adult tickets are $18 and children ages 2 – 12 are only $9.25. Premium seats for all ages are available for $18. All seats increase by $2 on the day of the show.
