Mother Nature Continues to Set the Pace in NEMA Competition

Groton, CT — After two straight successful events it appeared as if the season, which has been plagued by inclement weather so far, was getting back on track for the Northeastern Midget Association (NEMA). But torrential rains in the area forced the postponement of the mid-week special planned for Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at the Seekonk Speedway in Seekonk, MA.

This marked the second time this season that an event at Seekonk Speedway was affected by rain. Officials from NEMA and Seekonk Speedway are still searching for a suitable replacement date. Details will be made available as soon as possible.

Before this most recent rain out, NEMA had hosted two great races that saw Ben Seitz of Pocasset, MA, score a victory on July 5, 2007 at Thompson International Speedway and Erica Santos of Franklin, MA, made history with her win at Stafford Motor Speedway on Tuesday, July 10, 2007. This weekend when the Northeastern Midget Association heads to the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, ME, they hope to dodge the rains drops and add another name to the list of winners this season which also includes Lou Cicconi, Joey Payne, and Randy Cabral.x

Payne of Fairlawn, NJ would like to become the season’s first two-time winner with a repeat at Beech Ridge. The last time the Midgets visited the Scarborough, ME speedplant in 2004, Payne cruised to victory over Ben Seitz and Mark Buonomo. Another former winner at the Speedway includes Pete Pernesiglio of Lake Grove, NY. No one is hungrier for a win than Pernesiglio, who would like to duplicate the magic at Beech Ridge to end his winless streak.

NEMA has made limited visits to Beech Ridge in the last decade, so the visit to the 1/3-mile facility was a welcome addition to the 2007 schedule for both fans and competitors. For more details on the event at Beech Ridge log on to www.beechridge.com or call the 24-hour race hotline a (207) 885-5800.

With Mother Nature wreaking havoc on the schedule, the NEMA action is now set to heat up this Fall. The race originally scheduled for June 9th at the Monadnock Speedway has been rescheduled for September 1, 2007 while a September 15th make-up date has been set for the event originally slated for May 19th at Seekonk.

These two dates will make for an action-packed month of September for the NEMA Midgets. A four-week stretch of racing kicks off when the club makes their long-awaited return to the Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, NH. Another trip back to the Granite State finds the mighty midgets competing in the prestigious Star Classic festivities on September 8, 2007 at the All-Star Speedway in Epping, NH.

NEMA caps of the month with events at two of the best midget tracks in the country. As always, the Midgets will deliver edge-of-your seat excitement with back–to-back dates at Seekonk Speedway on September 15th and the Waterford Speedbowl on September 22 & 23, 2007 as part of the annual Town Fair Tire Finale weekend.
