Fox, Billings Score Big Wins At Speedbowl

tomfox081107.jpgWaterford, CT — The only leader, Tom Fox captured Saturday night’s 35-lap SK-Modified feature, securing a guaranteed spot in the SK-portion of the North-South Shootout Nov. 4 in Concord, NC. Glen Billings won the 50-lap Legends National Qualifer.

Bruce Thomas Jr. won the 30-lap Late Model feature. Mark LaJoie (Sportsman) and Phil Evans (Mini Stock) were also winners.

It was the first win of the year for Fox who survived two restarts and beat back a late threat from Shawn Monahan. Dennis Charette was third followed by Don Fowler and Jeff Pearl.

Monahan climbed to within 16 of point leader Rob Janovic Jr. who finished seventh.

Billings was actually second but wound up the winner when officials ruled that Michael Gervais Jr. turned Jason Palmer in turn four of the last lap. Palmer, who set fast time (16.893), had passed Gervais a dozen laps before the incident.

It was the third straight and ninth win of campaign for Thomas. He took the lead from Ron Yuhas Jr. with 11 laps remaining. Yuhas held off Tim Jordan for second.

It was the first career Sportsman win for LaJoie. He assumed command with five left after a three-lap side-by-side battle with Jim Procaccini, the only other leader. Point leader Dwayne Dorr was third.

Evans took over early, survived a mid-race challenge from Kyle James and then held off Joe Godbout III to win for the fourth time this year. Randy Churchill Jr. was third.
