Naples, ME — Championship Saturday at White Mountain Motorsports Park, N. Woodstock, NH was a repeat for one team and one better for another.
In the PASS modified 50 lap feature, all Chris Staples had to do was take the green flag and he had back-to-back championships. He did it, but there was a lot more than that to a great modified race. For Chris Smith, Jason Taylor, Mark Lucas, and Troy Morse, it could be second, third or even fifth at the end of the day since there were only 23 points separating second and fifth.

Thompson, CT — The World Series of Speedway Racing continued on Saturday at Thompson International Speedway with a full day of both qualifying and feature racing actions. The qualifying order was set for the Whelen Modified Tour through time trials on Saturday. A solid qualifying run finds Tony Ferrante of New Hyde Park, NY, on the pole for Sunday’s premier event. After the redraw Bobby Santos III will join the sentimental favorite on the front row. Before a host of features were run on Saturday night, qualifying heat races were held for the International Supermodified Association (ISMA), the Northeastern Midget Association as well as the Thompson Sunoco Modifieds, Pro Stocks and Late Models.
The Thompson regular weekly divisions finished off the 2007 season in grand-style with Larry Barnett (Ltd. Sportsman), Mike Romano (Mini Stocks), and Leo Adams (TIS Modifieds) scoring victories. Rick Gentes of Woonsocket, RI, continued his stronghold on the Outlaw Late Model laurels during the World Series. In other Outlaw action, Tim Sullivan of S. Windsor won a barnburner in the Strictlys and visiting Randy Churchill, Jr. of Niantic bested the Outlaw Mini Stocks. The Touring Series competitors established a pattern on Saturday night as both Seth Duvall of Ashford in the All-Star Truck Series and Norm Wrenn of Nashua, NH, in the Pro-Four Modifieds rode feature wins to 2007 championships.
The racing resumes on Sunday at Noon when the big guns of the Whelen Modified Tour, the International Supermodified Association, and the Northeastern Midget Association are joined by the Thompson Sunoco Modifieds, Pro Stocks and Late Models. Fans are encouraged to come early to find their seats. The Grandstands open at 9 AM. Pit gates open at 8 AM. Thompson, CT — Anthony Ferrante Jr. earned his second career Budweiser Pole Award Saturday, and then redrew the top spot for Sunday’s Xtra-Mart 150 at Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway.
Ferrante’s time of 120.656 mph around the .625-mile oval beat out Tony Hirschman Jr. by .025 seconds. Donny Lia, who has already clinched the 2007 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship, qualified fourth, followed by Billy Pauch Jr.
