‘Bowl’s Competitive Field Looks Ahead To 2008

Clearly the most competitive regular field in New England will get back at it when Waterford Speedbowl begins 58th consecutive season with the 12th annual Modified Nationals on April 12-13.

The NASCAR Whelen All American divisions – SK Modifieds, Late Models, Sportsman and Mini Stocks – plus the Legends produced 37 different winners in 2007. The battle for the championship in all but one division went to the final event.

The SK-150, the headline event of the Nationals, was the first extra-distance, extra-purse race in SK history. It remains one of the division’s premier events.

Current champions Rob Janovic Ken Cassidy Jr. (Mini Stock) and Michael Gervais Jr. (Legends) are all probable defenders. Dwayne Dorr (Sportsman) has yet to make a decision. All can expect plenty of competition.

Multiple appearances by four of the fastest divisions in the Northeast make the 2008 schedule the most varied and most exciting in the facility’s history.

Three 13-second divisions – the International SuperModified Racing Association, the Northeastern Midget Association and the True Value Modified Series – head up the list of visitors. Returning in ’08 are the Three Quarter Midgets and the American Canadian Tour.

NEMA makes the first of four ’08 visits at the Nationals. Also on the Nationals’ docket are the Pro4 Modifieds, AllStar Race Trucks and Allison Legacy Cars.

The season will run through the traditional season ender, the Finale on Oct. 4-5. The Midseason 300 is scheduled for July 5 with the third annual Double Down Shootout slated for Aug. 30.
