Sunoco Named Title Sponsor of SpeedwayEXPO 2008

Salisbury, MA — Performance Media has reached an agreement to make Sunoco the presenting sponsor of SpeedwayEXPO, its motorsports exposition. On February 29-March 2 the Eastern States Exposition, in West Springfield, MA, the “Home of the Big E,” will become the home of the largest racing show in the Northeast. SpeedwayEXPO will take over the 130,000-square-foot Mallary Complex with exhibits from local and regional race tracks and sanctioning bodies, vendors of performance parts and accessories, retailers of collectibles and memorabilia and much more.

The sponsorship was a perfect fit for both national companies, who have strong ties to the Northeast and share an interest in the strength and longevity of professional and grassroots motorsports. Performance Media also publishes Speedway Illustrated Magazine.

“We are absolutely thrilled that Sunoco has signed on as the title sponsor, said the magazine’s founder, Dick Berggren. “Through their New England Racing Fuels and its Sunoco products, Mike Joy and John Holland have supported local level auto racing in the Northeast on many levels. Whenever they’ve seen an opportunity to grow the sport, they have been on board so we’re delighted that they are now a big part of Speedway EXPO.”

Sunoco executive Mike Joy and New England Race Fuels COO John Holland, both strong advocates of short-track racing, are working with the SpeedwayEXPO team to create a number of exciting opportunities for the 2008 show.

“We’re really excited to bring Sunoco on board with SpeedwayEXPO,” said Joy. “New England racers and fans deserve a great pre-season racing show, and the key to its success is getting the word out.

The show will allow Sunoco and its regional retailers to work directly with SpeedwayEXPO to bring greater visibility and a renewed sense of excitement to racing in the Northeast.

“Sunoco retailers throughout the region will soon have show information, and our goal is to help bring back the huge crowds that used to come to the Big E in past years.”

In the weeks leading up to EXPO, discount show coupons will be available at participating Sunoco retailers. At the show, approximately $900 in gasoline gift cards will be given away to attendees and racers will be eligible to win 55-gallon drums of Sunoco race fuel.

SpeedwayEXPO is where short-track adrenaline meets the thrill of big-league racing. A broad mixture of cars from tracks around the Northeast will combine asphalt and dirt stock-car racing with drag racing, motocross and other motorsports. The trade portion of the event, with vendors of performance parts and accessories, is always one of the main attractions for enthusiasts and racers.

The entertainment will also include collectibles and memorabilia vendors along with a host of interactive displays, educational seminars, autograph sessions and special events for the whole family. SpeedwayEXPO is guaranteed to chase away those winter blues and off-season doldrums.
