Stafford Speedway Friday Night Racing Begins May 2

Stafford Springs, CT — Stafford Motor Speedway will kick off its 2008 regular Friday Night NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing schedule with Opening Night on Friday, May 2. Opening Night will mark the first of 20 consecutive weeks of Friday night NASCAR racing at the famed Connecticut half-mile. The 2008 Stafford Motor Speedway Friday night schedule runs from May 2 to September 12.

Opening Night at Stafford kicks off a busy month at Stafford. During the month of May, Stafford Motor Speedway has five Friday night events scheduled, including the 14th Annual Late Model 100 on May 9, and the 18th Annual TSI Harley Davidson 150 Whelen Modified Tour on May 23rd. As always, May is Youth Organization Month at Stafford Motor Speedway. For all May events, any child age 6-14 who wears a youth organization team shirt or uniform will be given free admission when accompanied by an adult.

Stafford’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program will feature five divisions of racing, the SK Modifieds®, Late Models, SK Light Modifieds, Limited Late Models, and DARE Stocks. SK Modified feature events will be 40-laps, Late Model features will be 30-laps, the SK Light and Limited Late Model features will be 20-laps, and the DARE Stock features will be 15-laps. All feature events will be green flag laps only.

The chase for the 2008 track championships will begin in earnest when the green flag drops on Opening Night. Ted Christopher won his sixth track championship last season in the SK Modified® division, which broke a tie with Bob Potter for the most Stafford championships. Christopher is also three feature victories away from recording a milestone 100th overall feature win at Stafford. In the Late Model division, Corey Hutchings will look to repeat his rookie season of a year ago and win his second consecutive track championship. Chris Matthews is the defending SK Light champion, Sean Foster is the defending Limited Late Model track champion, and Norm Sears will attempt to join Phil Rondeau and Ryan Posocco as the only drivers to win three consecutive track championships as he is the two-time defending DARE Stock track champion.

Tickets for Opening Night at Stafford Motor Speedway are priced at $15.00 for adult general admission, $5.00 for children ages 6-14, and free for children ages 5 & under. Reserved seating is priced at $18.00 for all ages. Stafford Motor Speedway offers free parking with overnight parking available.
