Coors Light presents the “Coors Light Silver Cup” for the ARC Pro Stocks

Saturday night, May 24th, Coors Light will be on hand to present the “Coors Light Silver Cup” to the winner of the ARC Pro Stock 75 lap main event. In addition to the glory that goes along with the Silver Cup, the winner of the first of 3 three-quarter century grinds will win a $2,000 payoff.  Reigning ARC Pro Stock Champion Dave Darling of Rehoboth MA is the heave favorite going into this event. Not only did he pick up his second title in a row at The Action Track of the East, he picked up 6 wins in 2007 behind the wheel of the Johnson Landscaping Dodge, including both 75 lap grinds. Trying to defend his reign will be a tough feat, considering the competition in 2008.

So far, it has been one name in the Winners’ Circle this season, Scully. Tom Jr. picked up the opening day win, while Tom Sr. was last Saturday nights victor. While Sr. was sidelines all of 07, due to injuries sustained in an opening day crash, Tom Jr. picked up 3 wins, including two 50 lap main events. Also knocking on the door to Victory Lane early this season has been Ken Spencer of Taunton, MA. Ken has been fast, keeping his Pub 76- Francis Farm Chevy leading much of the opening nights’ main event, only to falter late in the race, and finishing in the runner-up spot in last Saturday.  Two time Pro Stock Champion Fred Astle Jr., who many have claimed that he has been the fastest so far, is looking to pick up his first win of the season. . Opening night saw the Wood Frame Structures Chevy work his way to the front 2 times, only to finish fourth on opening night, while finishing third in week 2. Other favorites for this event include Matt Hudon, last years DAV Memorial winner, Mike Brightman of Acushnet and rookies Jake Vanada and Ryan Vanasse.

Sports Car Invasion

Car Clubs from all over New England will be invading New Hampshire Motor Speedway giving fans the unique opportunity to enjoy some great action.  This weekend, there will be a full slate of racing action as the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) holds their second of five regional events.  The SCCA recognizes over 40 different classes of sports cars including racing sedans, sports racers, and formula/open-wheel racers.

Infield wristbands for the entire weekends activities are $25.  Children aged 11 and under are free.

Racer Cyr to Pull Memorial Day Double-Duty at Home

Milton, VT driver will race ACT, Modified events at Thunder Road

Champion stock car driver Jean-Paul Cyr of Milton, VT will attempt his second double-duty effort of the 2008 racing season at his home track, Barre, VT’s Thunder Road, with this weekend’s 46th Annual Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic on Sat./Sun., May 24/25.  Cyr will assume his regular duties behind the wheel of the #32 RPM Racing Engines Chevrolet in the 100-lap American-Canadian Tour Late Model event on Sunday afternoon, and will then strap into the #25 Roscoe Racing car owned by Gary Casella for the True Value Modified Racing Series 100.

Cyr did the double at New Hampshire’s Lee USA Speedway in April, but was involved in an early crash in the ACT Late Model Tour event, finishing 28th.  He later battled power steering problems in the Modified race, but managed to finish a respectable 12th.

Weather Ruins TNTT Opener at Thompson

Thompson, CT — Mother Nature moved in and forced the cancellation of Thompson International Speedway’s opening Thursday night race program. A consistent rain and drizzle forced the hand of the track’s management to cancel the event shortly before 12 Noon.

The current conditions along with the weather forecasts convinced us that it was in everyone’s best interest to cancel tonight’s event. We now look forward to a beautiful weekend for our holiday Eve of Destruction program on Sunday,” said track owner, Don Hoenig.
