Palmisano Tops in Late Model 50 at Thompson; Rocco Checkers Mods

First-Time Winners Ramstrom & Sundeen; Sullivan & Michalski Also Winners

Thompson, CT — The Late Models took center stage at Thompson Speedway on Thursday night with Marc Palmisano of Hadley, MA, taking a dominant win the extra-distance race for the division. It was a career night for some of the young lions of Thompson Speedway. Teenagers Derek Ramstrom and Jay Sundeen scored their first career wins on Thursday night. Ramstrom of Worcester, MA, earned a dominating win in the Pro Stocks and Sundeen of Douglas, MA, was best in the Limited Sportsman division.

Keith Rocco of Wallingford scored a hard-fought victory in the Sunoco Modifieds and Tim Sullivan of S. Windsor rebounded with a TIS Modified victory. Scott Michalski of South Killingly took top honors in the Mini Stock main event.

July 25 Carquest SK 150 at Stafford Brings Total Posted Awards of Over $25,000 to Competitors

Stafford Springs, CT — The 5th annual CARQUEST Auto Parts SK 150, scheduled for Friday, July 25 at Stafford Motor Speedway, will feature total posted awards of over $25,000, making the event one of the most lucrative races in SK Modified® racing for the 2008 season.

The winner of the CARQUEST Auto Parts SK® 150 has the potential of walking away with 4,000 in total awards. The winner is guaranteed $3,500, with $500 in first place contingency bonuses available from sponsors CARQUEST Auto Parts, The Davidson Company, and Valvoline. The $24,950 in guaranteed purse is generously distributed throughout the field. The CARQUEST Auto Parts SK 150 will start 30 cars. Last place is guaranteed to pay $300, while 10th place will pay $1,000. The purse increases by $100 for each position from 9th place to 3rd place, while second place pays $2,200. The payout for 11th place is $900, and from positions 12 through 16, the purse decreases by $100 per position. The 17th position pays $375, and the remainder of the starting positions decreases by $25 per position to 20th place, with all drivers finishing 20th thru 30th receiving $300.

New England Dodge Dealers 75 at Thompson Intl. Speedway

Daytona Beach, FL — Following nearly a month layoff the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will return to the asphalt at Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway with the New England Dodge Dealers 75 presented by Charter Cable, Internet & Telephone on Thursday, June 19.

At Thompson International Speedway:

Since the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour formed in 1985, there have been 101 races at Thompson International Speedway.

In the first NWMT event at TIS – the 1985 Icebreaker – Richie Evans won the pole and took the checkered flag.

State Wins NEMA Lites Opener

Waterford, CT — Taking the lead exiting two with two laps remaining, Jessie State won the “first official” NEMA Lites feature Wednesday night (June 11) at Waterford Speedbowl. Coming from the rear, State was the third leader in the 20-lapper that was part of the Speedbowl’s Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday series.

Jake Stergios, who led most of the race, held on for second with P.J. Stergios third. Anthony Marvuglio and early leader Josh Woolam completed the top five.

Family Values

The thought came to mind this week about family and what that means. June is a time for many weddings and with weddings come the start of a new family. In May we celebrate Mother’s Day and June is reserved for Father’s day. What does your family unit look like? How are things going in your family? Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Family has come to mean many things in our society today. We call any group of people bonded by some common thread a family. Use the racing family for example, we come together around the sport of racing. We have a common language. We experience together the ups and downs of racing. We are bonded by the tread of racing.
