Qualifying: Martinsville Pole For Preece
Martinsville, VA — Ryan Preece earned an historic Coors Light Pole Award Saturday afternoon at Martinsville Speedway.
It was Preece’s second career pole award and comes as the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour gets set to run the 500th race in its history. The event is a combination race with the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour. George Brunnhoelzl III, who was second fastest overall, was also awarded a Coors Light Pole Award as the fastest NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour driver.
Preece’s No. 3 Mizzy Construction/Reynolds Auto Wrecking Chevrolet circled the .526-mile oval in 18.877 seconds for an average speed of 100.313 mph. Brunnhoelzl’s speed in the No. 28 Oval Speed Unlimited Ford was 18.917 (100.100).
The top eight qualifiers redrew for starting position and Bobby Hutchens, who was fifth fastest in qualifying, will start first. Burt Myers qualified fourth and will start on the front outside of the front row.
The race is scheduled to take the green flag at 3:30 p.m.
