Rain Washes-Out Saturday Night Card At Speedbowl

Waterford, CT — Heavy rains expected to blanket New England throughout the weekend prompted Speedbowl officials to cancel Saturday evening’s race program. The decision to “pull-the-plug” was made Friday afternoon.

Action resumes at the shoreline oval with the season-ending Town Fair Tire Finale on October 3, 4, & 5. A record thirteen divisions are slated to take the green with championship honors still up for grabs for many of the Bowls’ weekly competitors.

Mother Nature Cancels ALNRS Race

Newburgh, NY – For the eigth time this season Mother nature has forced the cancellation of the ALNRS race.  The ALNRS was to compete in the New England Outdoor Furnace Fall Challenge at Twin State Speedway in Claremont, NH on Saturday, however due to the weather track management was forced to cancel all scheduled races for Saturday Sept. 27.  It is yet to be determined if the Sunday portion of their show will also be cancelled.  Should the entire weekend be cancelled the entire race weekend will be rescheduled for October 25 & 26.  The ALNRS will head to Lee USA Speedway next weekend for the Octoberfest weekend and possibly the final race of the 2008 ALNRS Season.

Saturday Program Cancelled at Waterford

Waterford, CT — With forecasts for the weekend worsening, Speedbowl management has cancelled Saturday night’s program. The Speedbowl is now preparing for the season-ending “Finale” on Oct. 3-4-5.

Stafford Motor Speedway 2009 Limited Late Model Rules Released

Stafford Springs, CT — Stafford Motor Speedway has released their 2009 rules for the Limited Late Model division, which are available online in the DOWNLOADS/RULES section of www.staffordspeedway.com.

Rule change highlights for the 2009 Limited Late Model season include: Jacking bolts will be allowed on the front suspension. Shock location has been moved from the inside to the outside of the frame rail and the Pro WB Series Shocks will be the mandatory shock on all Limited Late Model cars. Disc brakes were previously only allowed on the fron of the car but now will be allowed on all four wheels, and teams can use the new XYG Tube Metric snout. Teams will be allowed the option of running a Ford 9 inch non-locking rear end.

Car No. 1 NWSMT Team Penalized for Rules Violations at Martinsville Speedway

Daytona Beach, FL — NASCAR announced today the car No. 1 team that competes in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour has been penalized as a result of rules violations committed Saturday, Sept. 20 at Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, Va.

The team was found to be in violation of Sections 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing); 12-4-Q (car, car parts, components and/or equipment used do not conform to NASCAR rules); and 20D-6.1.1B (ignition system wires must be continuous from the start connector to the end connector. Splices, bare and punctured wires will not be permitted in the ignition system: spliced wires from the purple wire out of the ignition amplifier box) of the 2008 NASCAR Touring rule book. The violations were discovered during post-race inspection on Sept. 20.

Mother Nature Can’t Dampen Milk Bowl

The 45th Annual Chittenden Bank Milk Bowl stock car event will go on as scheduled at Barre, VT’s Thunder Road on Sat./Sun., Sept. 27/28, despite a test from Mother Nature.  Recent weather forecasts have changed in favor of the event’s taking place, and have prompted race officials to continue with the program as planned.

“We feel like we’ll get a fair chance to race on Saturday, and Sunday should be even better,” said Thunder Road Manager Tom Curley.  “In fact, we’ve even got back-up from our friends at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, as they’ve kindly offered us the use of their jet-dryer in case we do get wet.”

Weather Postpones Stafford Fall Final Weekend

Events Rescheduled For Oct. 10-12

Daytona Beach, FL — An expected weekend-long deluge from a tropical storm has postponed the 36th annual CARQUEST Fall Final at Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, Conn.

The race weekend, which featured the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the final race of the NASCAR Camping World Series East, has been rescheduled for October 10-12.

The weekend will include all five divisions of Stafford’s NASCAR Whelen All American Series as scheduled.

Rain Postpones Stafford Speedway’s CARQUEST Fall Final

Stafford Springs, CT — With the forecast calling for heavy rain for Saturday, and Tropical Storm Kyle, which is predicted to intensify into a hurricane and approach the New England coastline on Sunday, Stafford Motor Speedway has announced that it has postponed its CARQUEST Fall Final racing card that was scheduled for September 26 through September 28 to the weekend of October 10, 11, and 12.

The schedule for the Fall Final Weekend will remain the same. The 36th Annual CARQUEST Fall Final Weekend will kick off on Friday, October 10th with a practice session running from 2:00pm to 6:30pm for Stafford’s weekly divisions. The General Admission grandstands will be open to the public at no charge for the practice session.

Schedule Change Made to CARQUEST Fall Final Weekend

Stafford Springs, CT — With a forecast calling for a steady rainfall throughout the day on Friday, September 26th, Stafford Motor Speedway has made a schedule change to its 36th Annual CARQUEST Fall Final Weekend. The SMS Paddock Area will open to all teams at 7:00am on Saturday, September 27th, there will be no activity at the track on Friday, September 26th.

Dylan Smith Takes Allison Legacy North Points Lead

Newburgh, NY — For the first time this season the ALNRS has a new points leader. Randolph, VT driver Dylan Smith not only picked up his third win of season this past weekend at Monadnock Speedway, he also became the series current points leader heading into the final two races of the season.

James Logan of Dighton, MA. who had held the points lead the entire season in his 44 G. Lopes Construction  Thunderbird,  came into the weekend with a fifteen point lead over Dylan. Unfortunately for James his luck ran out Saturday during the heat race when he got together with the 19 of David Schneider as they entered turn three. James was unable to finish the heat race and had to retire to the pits for repairs. The winner of the heat race was Dylan who picked up five points for the win to help close the gap on Logan.

Blewett Scores Fifth Win in Sunoco Mods at Thompson; Malone Mod Champ; Astle, Zuidema, Sundeen, Vigeant & Field Also Crowned ‘08 Champs

Final Thursday Night Feature to Bessette, O’Sullivan, Douton, Sullivan & Romano

Thompson, CT — The point chase went down to the wire with 2008 champions being crowned on the final Thursday Night of competition at Thompson International Speedway. Jimmy Blewett of Howell, NJ, won the battle in the Sunoco Modifieds but it was Kerry Malone of Needham, MA, winning the war. Fred Astle, Jr., of Westport, MA, was the runner-up to George Bessette of Danbury, CT, in Pro Stock action on Thursday Night to catapult him to the divisional championship.

Jeff Zuidema of N. Brookfield, MA, was crowned as the 2008 Late Model Champion while Tommy O’Sullivan of Springfield, MA, won the final regular feature event for the division. Chris “Moose” Douton of Waterford, CT, was tops in a Limited Sportsman feature that found Scott Sundeen of Oxford, MA, winning the championship.  Kurt Vigeant, also of Oxford, MA, scored back-to-back championships in the TIS Modified division. Brian Sullivan of S. Windsor, CT, was victorious in the final TIS Modified point race of season. Mike Romano of Glendale, RI, did all he could; winning the Mini Stock feature; but, it was not enough to overtake Danny Field of Deep River, CT, who earned the 2008 championship.
