Brown Gains Ground With Win

Asheboro, NC — With championship implications clearly on the line with only two races remaining, the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour returned to action on Saturday night at the famed Caraway Speedway.

In the end, it was a successful night for Tim Brown who scored his second victory in the last three races on Saturday in the Whelen 150. Brian Loftin finished second, which allowed Brown to cut 10 points off Loftin’s lead. Loftin leads Brown by 35 points heading into next weekend’s season finale at Caraway.

“That was a heck of a race and it did help us as far as the points go,” said Brown, who won the Coors Light Pole Award for the race. “I was lucky enough to gain points on both Brian Loftin and L.W. Miller. L.W. and I put on one heck of a show for the fans. I know they had to like that.”

L.W. Miller was second in the Whelen Southern Modified Tour standings coming into Saturday night’s race and was looking to cut even further as he led the most laps until Brown passed him with 12 laps remaining. Just after losing the top spot, Miller spun. Although there was no damage, the spin dropped him back to sixth in the final running order. He is third in the points standings, 63 behind Loftin.

Rounding out the top five behind Brown and Loftin were George Brunnhoelzl, Andy Seuss and Brandon Ward.

The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour is scheduled to wrap the 2008 series season next Saturday night with a 150-lap event at Caraway Speedway.
