ALNRS Concludes with Fall Challenge at Twin State Speedway

Newburgh, NY — The Twin State Speedway New England Outdoor Furnace Fall Challenge caps the 2008 ALNRS season. Just as he did last season Cody Gneiting of Somers, CT ended the season on a high note winning back to back races. Cody showed, that his win at the Octoberfest at Lee Speedway was no fluke has he marched his way to the front to capture his second win of the season. Second place went to the newly crowned 2008 ALNRS Champion Dylan Smith of Randolph, VT. Based on his finish in the heat race Dylan merely had to start the feature to claim the championship. Finishing third was Taunton, MA driver Shane D’Agostino who had a fierce on track battle with Dighton, MA driver James Logan. The two literally battled all season long, duking it out on the track with the final battle resulting in a black flag for Logan has the two drivers beat and banged on each other for position. The black flag put Logan down three laps relegating him to a 7th place finish, which dropped him to third in the season’s final point standings just four points behind D’Agostino.

With the race being held over from Saturday until Sunday, due to rain and several cautions in the first 11 laps of the race Saturday. The drivers picked up where they left off Saturday as the first of six cautions was brought out on lap 15 as Wakefield, NH driver Mellissa Fifield spun coming out of turn four. The second caution came on lap 18 as Logan and D’Agostino got together as they battled for position. Lap 19 brought out caution number three as rookie driver Mickey D’Agostino who was making his first appearance in the ALNRS spun coming off turn four. Turn four appeared to be the turn of choice as Fifield once again spun exiting on lap 26. On lap 28 Logan would get into D’Agostino bringing out the fifth caution and thus resulting in Logan receiving the black flag as Twin State Speedway officials deemed it intentional contact. The final caution would wave as the #3 driven by Bennington, NH driver Kyle Poodiack would spin in turn two. As a result the race was given the yellow-checkered and thus putting an end to the 2008 ALNRS season.

In two weeks several ALNRS drivers will make the long trip down south as they head to the 200 lap Allison Legacy Fall Classic at Florence Speedway in Timmonsville, SC. The race will cap off the season for the drivers who will then be able to take several weeks off before they began preparation for the 2009 Season.
