Kretschman Motorsports Adds Ted Christopher to Late Model Lineup Alongside Ryan Posocco for 2009 Season

Stafford Springs, CT — When the green flag drops on the 2009 Late Model season at Stafford Motor Speedway, the Kretschman Motorsports team will have one of the most formidable driver lineups ever to hit the pavement at the Connecticut half-mile. In addition to defending track champion Ryan Posocco, the Kretschman team has added Ted Christopher to drive a second car in limited action during the 2009 season. Between them, Christopher and Posocco have won a grand total of 10 track championships at Stafford.

Christopher will pilot the #18 Ford Fusion in selected events during the 2009 season with primary sponsorship from John Barnes and Motorsports of New England with associate sponsorship from The Davidson Company. In Christopher and Posocco, the Kretschman team has the winningest SK Modified® and Late Model drivers in Stafford history with 144 career Stafford feature victories between them.

“They have some real good stuff and I’m looking forward to getting into one of their cars,” said Christopher. “You can’t beat what they’ve done at Stafford the last couple years, their equipment is top notch. They gave me a call and asked me if I would be interested in driving one of their cars this year, so we’re going to go out and see if we can’t win some Late Model races.”

With the current economic climate, sponsorship has become harder to secure for teams. But it was a new sponsor in John Barnes and his MotorsportsNewEngland.com website that made this new combination possible.

“Having John come on board with us was the main factor in allowing us to put the second car on the track for Teddy this year,” said Pat and Marcia Kretschman. “Without his involvement, we wouldn’t have been able to do a second car. John’s a great person and we’re happy to have him involved with our race team for the 2009 season.”

The Krestchman team is no stranger to finding on-track success in the Late Model division at Stafford. They are the defending Late Model track champions with Posocco, and also won the 2006 title with Woody Pitkat. This past season, Posocco posted 7 victories and 14 podium finishes in 17 races to take the championship and the team will be looking for similar success with the addition of Christopher this coming season.

“We’ve certainly had some good drivers in our cars over the years at Stafford, but Teddy definitely tops the list as far as accolades at Stafford go,” said the Kretschmans. “This is a great opportunity for us to put Teddy into one of our cars. Our primary focus will still be Ryan’s car and racing for the championship, but Teddy will have the same car as Ryan and hopefully we can win a lot of races this year. Our plan for now is to do four or five races with Teddy, but if we can find additional sponsorship and if Teddy’s schedule allows for it, we might be able to do more than four or five races this year. I don’t think we can top what we accomplished last season except to go out and be consistent every week and have fun.”

The dynamic duo of Posocco and Christopher will share the track for the first time at the 38th Annual Tech-Net Spring Sizzler, scheduled for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, April 24, 25, & 26. Tickets for “The Greatest Race in the History of Spring,” are now on sale at the Stafford Motor Speedway Box Office. Tickets are priced at $35.00 for adult general admission tickets, $5.00 for children ages 6-14, and free for children ages 5 & under.
