New Hampshire Motor Speedway Gears Up for the Season at SpeedwayEXPO ’09

With Opening Day just over a month away, New Hampshire Motor Speedway will gear up for the 2009 season with an exciting, interactive display at this weekend’s SpeedwayEXPO ’09.

The region’s largest motorsports trade show runs from this Friday through Sunday in the Mallary Complex at the Eastern States Exposition Center in West Springfield, Mass.

The New Hampshire Motor Speedway booth will include: NASCAR Camping World Series East Track Champion Eddie MacDonald’s No. 71 NEMO/Grimm Construction Chevrolet; American-Canadian Tour star Brent Dragon’s No. 55 Beverage Mart Chevrolet; Doug Post’s No. 2 Dunseth USAC Sprint Car built in 1972 by the legendary Paul Leffler; and Darryl Dutch’s fan favorite 1937 No. 9 Chevrolet Modified Coupe.

On Sunday, Matt Carey and Jay Coffey will be broadcasting live from the New Hampshire Motor Speedway booth from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Guests for the “Carey and Coffey Show” will include:  American-Canadian Tour drivers Brent Dragon, Cris Michaud, and Joey “Pole” Polewarczyk, Jr.; NASCAR stars Ted Christopher and Eddie MacDonald; SpeedwayEXPO Grand Marshal Quinn Wazorko; New Hampshire Motor Speedway Executive Vice President and General Manager Jerry Gappens; and renown area journalists Shawn Courchesne of the Hartford Courant and “The Backstretch” along with the Kennebec Journal and Green-White-Checker’s Travis Barrett.

After the broadcast, Round One of the “Quest for the NHMS Golden Globe” will be held.  Matt Carey, Jay Coffey, Shawn Courchesne, and Travis Barrett will face-off in the “Showdown at High Noon” on the iRacing.com Motorsports simulator in the speedway’s booth.  These four competitors will be looking to be the fastest qualifier in a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series car at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, the site of this week’s race.  As an added twist, if any of the four beat the lap time of the “Hoosier Hustler,” the mystery professional driver being brought in by the speedway for this competition, a donation will be made in their name to the New Hampshire Chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities.

“We are excited that Dick Berggren and his outstanding SpeedwayEXPO ’09 staff have invited us to be a part of this wonderful show,” said Jerry Gappens, Executive Vice President and General Manager of New Hampshire Motor Speedway.  “This is a great way for our fans and competitors to start the season.  We are really looking forward to the ‘Showdown at High Noon,’ and we hope that the ‘Hoosier Hustler’ is ready for the challenge!”
