Preseason ISMA News & Notes for 2009

ISMA ROLLS BACK NOVELTY TRAILER PRICES FOR 2009

Oswego, NY — While the ISMA competitors are preparing to roll out their winged supermodifieds for the 2009 racing season, the ISMA management has decided to do some rolling of its own. This season, to help battle the tough economic situation, ISMA has been determined that all pricing at the Novelty Trailer will be rolled back to the same pricing as in 2000.

During the entire 35th racing season, ISMA fans will be able to pick up their favorite t-shirt, sweatshirt, jacket, hat, decal and more at a reduced rate. While ISMA has no control over pricing at the tracks they visit throughout the year, they can help the fans out with that special souvenir sold at the Novelty Trailer. The new pricing begins with the 2009 opener at Waterford Speedbowl on May 23 and continues through the Thompson Int’l Speedway World in October.

King Richard Petty Coming to Thunder Road’s 50th Anniversary

Richard Petty, stock car racing’s all-time Champion, will appear at Barre’s Thunder Road as part of the track’s season-long 50th Anniversary Celebration on Thursday Night, July 30th. The 7-time National Champion, and record 7-time Daytona 500 mile winner, holds the record of 200 major wins in what is now the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. His closest rival on that win list is David Pearson at 105, with Cale Yarborough and Bobby Allison tied for third at 84.

Petty is considered the cornerstone of the sport’s popularity and growth. Thunder Road’s history parallels the Petty legend. The Level Cross, North Carolina native won his first race in 1960 on a half-mile dirt track in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Petty name still dominates the sport 17 years after he retired as a driver. Many consider his 27 wins–including 10 in a row in 1967–the greatest single season performance in NASCAR history.

Former Track Champion Sean Foster Moves to SK Modified® Division for 2009 Season at Stafford Motor Speedway

Stafford Springs, CT — Former Stafford Motor Speedway Limited Late Model champion Sean Foster will make the jump up to the SK Modified® division for the 2009 season, where he will challenge for Reliable Welding and Speed Rookie of the Year honors. Foster will drive a third Glenn Johnson owned car as a teammate to Doug Coby and Zach Sylvester. Foster’s car will carry sponsorship from TSI Columbia Harley-Davidson as well as XtraMart Convenience Stores, Mansfield Paper, and Village Springs. Foster joins a talented SK Modified® rookie class of 11 other drivers that includes former SK Light champions Joe Allegro, Jr. and Chris Matthews, former SK Light drivers Mark Bakaj, Raymond Grassetti, Matt Gallo, and Mike Speeney, as well as Frank Hirt, Mike Sedor, Nichole Morgillo, Brett Gonyaw, and Jodi Johnson.

After winning the Limited Late Model track championship in 2007 and finishing as the runner up to Bill Davis in 2008, Foster sold his car to Dan Flannery and was nearly left without a ride for the 2009 season at Stafford. But thanks to his friendship with Doug Coby along with an open seat at the Glenn Johnson shop, a deal came together.
