Legends Car Series National Event Headlines July 18 ‘Bowl show

Waterford, CT — Waterford Speedbowl plays host to a special national Raceceiver Legends Car Series event this Saturday July 18 as part of the Wild ‘n Wacky Saturday race program. The 50-lap event is part of the national schedule for the Series, qualifying the winner with a guaranteed starting spot in the October 8-10 Raceceiver Legends Nationals at Lanier National Speedway in Georgia.

A healthy field of Legends Cars is expected with the starting lineup being set by time trials. Qualifying is set to roll off at 6:15pm. A last chance race will also be scheduled if deemed necessary. The top qualifiers through time trials will redraw to set the starting lineup for the 50-lapper. The event traditionally draws in top Legends competitors from other regions of the Northeast to go up against the Speedbowl’s best.

Leading the charge in the quest to secure the win and guaranteed spot in the Nationals will be Berlin’s Jason Palmer, who has already won 11

Legends Car events at the ‘Bowl this season between the Wednesday and Saturday race programs. He leads both points standings. The few who have challenged Palmer this year are also expected to factor heavily in the event. Fifteen year old Tony Flannery, from East Hampton, snapped Palmer’s ten race win streak earlier this season. Mystic’s Ryan Morgan, yet another successful teenager that races in the series, has also won this season. Joe Cipriano has looked strong this season still seeking his first win and challenged Palmer to the checkered flag this past Saturday. The fourteen year old driver from Waterbury continues to impress in just his second year in the division. Veteran drivers Shaun Buffington, George Whitney, Mike Beebe, Ed Field, and Carl Blandina have also been in the mix down to the wire in several events and are anticipated entries.

Joining the Legends Cars will be extra-distance races for the Speedbowl’s Wild ‘n Wacky race program divisions, making their first appearance under the Saturday night lights in their nine year history. The eight cylinder Super X-Cars and four cylinder X-Cars will each go 30 laps in distance, the first time they’ve ever gone beyond the 20-lap mark. The X-Modifieds will compete in a 20 lapper and the Bandolero’s will race 10-laps. The event would not be complete without a ‘wacky’ event added to the mix. Past wacky races have included flag pole races, cops and robbers, toll booth race, musical chairs and more.

The Speedbowl’s Wild ‘n Wacky race program offers top notch entertainment for low prices. With adult admission of just $8 for this special event and all youth 14 and under admitted free, it is one of the biggest bargains in family entertainment found in the region and throughout racing.
