Whelen Modified Tour Set For Second Shot At Stafford

Tech-Net Spring Sizzler To Run This Saturday

Daytona Beach, FL –  Originally scheduled for April 25, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour’s race at Stafford (Conn.) Motor Speedway is now set to take place this Saturday, May 1.

The Tech-Net Spring Sizzler presented by CARQUEST was to be the season-opening weekend for Stafford, and the second race of the year for the Whelen Modified Tour. Practice and qualifying took place last Saturday, April 24, under sunny skies. But when raceday rolled around, the rain rolled in, so the event was postponed to this weekend.

There have been slight alterations to the raceday schedule for this Saturday’s make-up date. Prior to the race the CARQUEST Belts & Hose Pit Party – the on-track autograph session – will now take place from 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The 33 cars of the Whelen Modified Tour will then get a 30-minute practice session starting at 1 p.m.

Stafford Speedway Welcomes Darrell Yarborough Nationwide Insurance Agency to Contingency Program

Stafford Springs, CT — Stafford Motor Speedway’s 2010 Contingency Program has added a new partner in Darrell Yarborough Nationwide Insurance. Thanks to the Darrell Yarborough Agency, each Stafford SK Light Modified third place finisher will leave the track with an extra $50 in their pockets. With 23 events on the 2010 calendar, SK Light competitors can take home an additional $1,150 during the 2010 season.

“We’re all really excited about working with the Speedway,” said Darrell Yarborough, owner of the Darrell Yarborough Agency. “I have relocated to Connecticut from Mooresville, NC, which is the heart of NASCAR country and with Nationwide being involved with NASCAR and sponsoring the Nationwide Series, we thought it was a natural fit for us to become a sponsor at Stafford Motor Speedway. We’re looking to market ourselves and get our name out there to customers and try to gain some of the market share. We’re all race fans at heart and we’re looking forward to lending a helping hand to the SK Light Modified competitors at Stafford Motor Speedway this season. We try to bring insurance down to a personal level with our customers and we’re hopeful that this will be the first step towards building a long-term relationship.”

In addition to becoming a contingency partner this season, the Darrell Yarborough Agency will spice things up on Friday, June 18th at Stafford Motor Speedway by bringing a Nationwide race car simulator as well as a Nationwide show car to the track.

ACT 2010 Post Season Awards Top $100,000

The American Canadian Tour (ACT) will celebrate twenty-five years of sanctioning and managing stock car races in 2010, and the quarter century old sanctioning body will award its race teams with over $100,000.00 in post-season awards. This will mark the first season the various point funds have topped the century mark.

“Our Late Model program has grown significantly over the past decade. ACT has tried to maintain the balance between keeping this division cost-effective, whether it is weekly racing or Tour racing. Most of our Tour competitors, and those weekly racers that have supported the ACT Late Model rules formula, are primarily focused on winning championships, which is the way it should be. It is still great that we can reward the teams with some financial awards at the end of a long season of racing,” said Darla Hartt, Vice President of the American Canadian Tour.

Both the US and the Castrol Tours will pay the Champions a bonus of $10,000 this season. Total awards will be over $80,000 for the two touring series. The “King of the Road” will receive $5,000, and there will be over $20,000 in point fund money awarded to the Thunder Road competitors.
