Ted Christopher and Stafford Speedway Combine Efforts in the “Race to Beat Breast Cancer”

Stafford Springs, CT — Ted Christopher has captured more checkered flags at Stafford Motor Speedway, 108, than any driver in the track’s long and storied history. For the 2010 season, Christopher will have extra motivation to add to that career win total. For every victory that Christopher records this season at Stafford, he will donate $100 to Breast Cancer Research in Connecticut. Christopher will also donate $1 for every lap he completes at Stafford this season.

“I met up with Nancy Baccaro from the UCONN Cancer Center at a Christmas party last year,” said Christopher. “Nancy works in the breast cancer research department and we got to talking about setting something up where I could help make a donation to breast cancer research in Connecticut through my racing. Every race I win at Stafford this year will be a $100 donation and every lap that I complete is $1 that I will donate. A friend of my wife’s has had two masectomy’s already at age 24 and 27, so it hits close to home and I’d like to help raise awareness about breast cancer and breast cancer research. The great thing about my donation is that it all stays in the state of Connecticut. The donations get split up among the different breast cancer hospitals in the state.”

As part of his efforts to raise awareness about breast cancer research, Christopher will have a special autograph item at next Friday night’s Coors Light SK Modified® 100 event.

Jay Goff Still in Search of First Career Victory as He Contends for SK Light Modified Championship at Stafford

Stafford Springs, CT — After finishing second to Michael Gervais, Jr. in the 2009 SK Light Modified championship at Stafford Motor Speedway, Jay Goff headed into the 2010 season with his focus set on taking home a championship as well as capturing his first career checkered flag. So far, Goff has himself in championship contention, but he is still in search of that elusive first victory.

“Right now, we’re on target with where we wanted to be this season,” said Goff. “One thing that has surprised me is the competitiveness of the division this year. Last year and in years past, there has usually been about 5 or 6 cars that were up front every week and could win. This year, it seems like there are about 12 or 13 cars that are up front every week and can win. It’s great for the division, it makes the racing more exciting for us as drivers and for the fans.”

Goff spent the majority of his off-season putting together a new race shop and he didn’t begin working on his car until two weeks before the season opening CARQUEST Tech-Net Spring Sizzler. The fact that Goff is in championship contention once again this season is a testament to Goff’s hard work and dedication.

Keith Rocco Set to Defend Title in 37th Annual Coors Light SK Modified® 100 at Stafford Motor Speedway

Stafford Springs, CT — Stafford’s SK Modified® division takes to the track for the first of two extra distance events of the 2010 season with the 37th Annual Coors Light SK Modified® 100 on June 11. Keith Rocco has been the man to beat in the SK Modified® division thus far in 2010 at Stafford, winning three of the first five races. Rocco outlasted Stafford’s all-time winningest driver Ted Christopher in a duel for the ages in last year’s Coors Light SK Modified® 100, swapping the lead no less than 5 times over the final 35 laps of the race, and he looks to once again reign supreme in the extra distance classic.

“I really like the extra distance races,” said Rocco. “We have a really good car for the extra distance races and last year was one of the best races I’ve ever had racing with Ted [Christopher]. I had a lot of fun racing with Ted last year and hopefully he has a good car and we can put on another good show.”

With third place finishes in the Coors Light SK Modified® 100 and the CARQUEST SK®150 in 2008 and his win in last year’s Coors Light SK Modified® 100, Rocco certainly knows what it takes to have his car in contention for the longer races and he expects to once again be a contender for the checkered flag at the end of the race.
