Speedbowl announces Saturday Showdown Series for Wednesday divisions

Bandolero’s, Super X-Cars and X-Cars take part in new Saturday series

Waterford, CT —  As part of Waterford Speedbowl’s increase from five to six weekly divisions on its NASCAR Whelen All-American Series program in 2011, divisions from the track’s popular mid-week Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesdays will be part of the action on select Saturday events. The Bandoleros, Super X-Car and X-Car divisions will each compete in a limited number of Saturday events as part of the special shootout series.

Saturday Showdown Series champions will be crowned separate from the Wednesday season under a unique points system.

The Showdown Series for each of the three divisions begins April 2 at Budweiser Blastoff Weekend, the Speedbowl’s 61st consecutive season opener. Each division will take to the track for the first time of the year on Saturday of the three-day event. Friday, April 1 is practice only for all race divisions in action during Budweiser Blastoff.

Following Blastoff, the Bandolero division will be in action on the following Saturday night race programs – April 9, April 23, May 14, June 11, July 2 as part of the annual ‘Mid-season 300’ event, September 3 for Thunder on the Sound and September 10. Their Showdown Series wraps up on back-to-back Saturdays in October. The Saturday Night Showdown takes place October 1 and the 2011 Speedbowl Finale Weekend will see the Bandoleros in action on October 8.

After Blastoff, the Super X-Cars are in action April 16, May 21, September 24 and for Finale Weekend on October 8. The X-Cars’ Saturday Showdown Series includes Blastoff Weekend, April 16, July 16, September 17 and Finale Weekend on October 8. Super X and X-Car competitors will have extra incentive to take the checkered flag in the special shootout series with winners receiving a higher payoff than Wednesday series events. In addition, all finishing positions in Super X and X-Car Showdown Series events will receive a payout.

The Saturday Showdown Series will award points for each division separate of their Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday standings. Points will be distributed in a special manner – race winners will receive a total of 12 points, with second position earning 10 points in each event. Third position will earn 9 points, decreasing by 1-point increments through 10th place. Every finisher from 10th place back will receive 2 points.

The Legends Cars will continue to race on both Wednesday and Saturday nights and crown champions for each program as they have for the past several seasons.
