Moffitt Keeps On Rolling At Greenville

Leads wire-to-wire to win K&N Pro Series East opener

Greenville, SC — Brett Moffitt started off 2011 the same place he ended last year: in Victory Lane. The only difference was the uniform.

In his first race for Michael Waltrip Racing, Moffitt won the Kevin Whitaker Chevrolet 150 Saturday night at Greenville Pickens Speedway. Moffitt led all 150 laps in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East opener at the historic half-mile.

Moffitt closed out the 2010 season with a win at Dover International Speedway driving for Joe Gibbs Racing. He took over the No. 00 at MWR, replacing two-time series champion Ryan Truex who moved up to the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Moffitt won the 21 Means 21 Pole Award presented by Coors Light earlier in the day Saturday and became the first driver since Ryan Moore in July of 2005 to lead every lap.

Budweiser Blastoff Starts 2011 Waterford Season with 7 Features

Waterford, CT — Waterford Speedbowl opened for the season Saturday with the first day of the two-day Budweiser Blastoff Weekend, qualifying 13 divisions of racing and handing out its first checkered flags of the 2011 season. Seven feature events were completed on the evening.

Giovanni Giarratana took the win in an exciting 25-lap Legends Cars race, holding off Alessandro Vitelli and Paul Kusheba over the closing laps. Vitelli took the lead on lap-1, pulling out to the early advantage over Joey Mucciacciaro and a heated battle for the remaining top-five positions. Dana Dimatteo came through the pack and blistered his way to the rear bumper of Vitelli by lap-10.

Contact between the top two exiting turn four of lap-13 sent Vitelli around in front of the pack. The field did a masterful job avoiding Vitelli, who continued on after dropping back to fifth place. A lap later Dimatteo was black flagged for aggressive driving when caution waved for Taylor Martin, handing the lead to Mucciacciaro.

Anthony Nocella Notches NEMA Lites Opener At Speedbowl

Waterford, CT —  Starting the season off on a high note, Anthony Nocella won the 25-lap NEMA Lites “Budweiser Blastoff” feature at the Waterford Speedbowl on Saturday evening.

Outside pole-sitter Ryan Bigelow jumped into the lead at the drop of the green closely followed by Carl Mederios. By midway the duo became engaged in a tight battle for the lead. Running side-by-side on the back stretch, contact ensued with Bigelow spinning to the infield, unable to continue.

On the restart, Mederios inherited the lead, followed by Nocella who had been gradually making his way through traffic.

With 10-laps remaining, 2nd-generation racer Bethany Stoehr violently slammed the front stretch wall signaling the final caution period of the event. She was uninjured.
