Vintage Racing Returns to NHMS May 17-22

Loudon, NH — Legend cars are just one of several kinds of cars that will race the track during the Vintage Celebration.

Step back in time at New Hampshire Motor Speedway May 17-22 as thousands of legendary racing vehicles from around the world compete during the 21st annual Vintage Racing Celebration.

On Tuesday, May 17, through Thursday, May 19, take in the sights and sounds of racing as it was during the early years. This historically significant race field will take on the 1.058 “Magic Mile” oval, featuring vintage midgets, sprint cars, champ cars, roadsters, NASCAR stock cars and even INDY cars.

“Witness the sounds that you don’t get to hear anymore,” says Ray Boissoneau, a diehard vintage racer. “The old ones you get the Caster oil, you get that smell in your nostrils, and you get a chance to see, hear and smell cars you’d never have a chance to see.”

Then on Friday, May 20, through Sunday, May 22, vintage road racers from around the world will battle wheel-to-wheel on New Hampshire Motor Speedway’s challenging 1.6-mile road course. This event gives classic car enthusiasts the opportunity to watch vintage sports cars, formula cars and motorcycles race around the tricky 12-turn course that offers an unprecedented side-by-side view of many different machines.

“I love the road course and I look forward to coming back every year to test my skills,” said Jay Phinizy a motorcycle enthusiast who returns each year for road course days. “I’ll be on a bike that was raced 30-years ago by the pros in some of the most competitive races in the sport.”

The Classic and Custom Car Show and Automotive Flea Market on Saturday, May 21, and Sunday, May 22, will showcase some of the best street rods, restored classics and custom cars in New England. On Sunday, two cars will be chosen to participate in the exclusive Super Wheels Showdown in Boston, Mass., where they will compete with top-100 super cruise and best of show vehicles from all over the Northeast.

Fans that enjoy grass roots racing of all types are encouraged to mingle in the pits, peek under the hoods and visit the garage area for an up-close look at the men and women who dedicate their time to preserving the rich history of auto racing.

As a promotion, fans that complete a brief scavenger hunt by Monday, May 16, will be given a free pass to the infield (admission tickets must be purchased separately). Four lucky winners will also be randomly drawn for free admission to the entire event.
