USAC DMA Midgets Return to Bear Ridge June 18; July 2 Show Added; Hank Rogers, Jr. Joins DMA

Bradford, VT — Following their successful 15 car debut on May 28, the USAC Dirt Midget Association returns to Bear Ridge Speedway on June 18 for their second visit of the season.

Denny Zimmerman, the 1971 Indy 500 Rookie of the Year, was unable to make the opener because he was a guest of honor at the Indy 500, but he’ll be back behind the throttle of the Skip Matczak Midget that Kevin Chaffee drove to second place. Zimmerman plans to compete in all the remaining USAC DMA events at Bear Ridge this season.

In response to positive feedback from fans after the broadsliding, dirt slinging USAC DMA maiden voyage, Bear Ridge owner/operator C.V. Elms added an additional date to the five that had already been scheduled. Look for the USAC DMA Midgets on their added date, July 2, for Noise-R-Us Fireworks Night.

The Valenti Modified Racing Series to Invade Seekonk Speedway on Saturday, June 11th

Seekonk, MA — For the first time this season, the open wheel ground pounders of the Valenti Modified Racing Series will be heading to Seekonk Speedway for their first of three visits in 2011. It will be a 100 lap affair, with qualifying heats to set the main event.

Jon McKennedy is the most recent VMRS driver to sit in Victory Lane at Seekonk, picking up the victory in the 2010 DAV Fall Classic. Jon is also coming off a great win in NH just this prior week. He will be competing against several drivers who have also visited the famed Cement Palace Winners Circle. They include Todd Annarummo, who picked up his first series win when the VMRS visited in August of 2010, Les Hinckley, Dwight Jarvis, Les Hinckley, and Chris Pasteryak.

Rowan Pennink heads into Seekonk as the points leader in the VMRS, and is looking to add Seekonk Speedway to his win list, as he is the most recent winner, picking up the checkers at Twin State Speedway 2 weeks ago. With over 60 drivers listed on their roster, and Seekonk being a speedway that relies more on the handling of the car more than the speed, it is not uncommon to see some surprises leading the field across the stripe.

Colby Fournier becomes Seekonk’s youngest Pro Stock winner; Rego gets redemption in Kraze’s 30/30 Street Stock feature; Brian Vincent wins Pro4 thriller; Vanasse and Cavallaro return to Victory Lane

Seekonk, MA — At the tender age of 17, Colby Fournier of Berkley, Mass, pulled off the first big win of his rookie Pro Stock Season by holding of a tenacious and hungry Tom Scully, Sr. for an entire race – 40 grueling laps, becoming the divisions’ youngest winner since the Pro Stocks began 33 years ago.

Fournier came off the outside pole with Lowell’s Jason Ferreira on the low side. The two battled briefly before Fournier had the lead coming out of turn two. That’s when the Senior Scully attached himself to Fournier’s tail. Somerset’s Kyle Casper got by Ferreira on lap 4 and Tom Scully, Jr. got past on lap 9. The front four then wound the remainder of the 40 laps in position at a blistering pace.

Scully worked his rookie opponent high and low continuously, only to find Fournier’s resolve, skill and speed equal to the test. While rookies often are flappable, Fournier maintained his course with the iron resolve of a seasoned Pro Stock charioteer. As the duo dueled, places in the pack moved around. Last week’s winner, Mike Brightman, had been put to fifteenth at the start for his win, and was moving painstakingly forward. Division champion, Fred Astle of Westport, started tenth, and edged his way through the crowd to fifth by lap 11. Rehoboth driver Dave Darling came up behind him on lap 13. Brightman, from Acushnet, arrived at Darling’s bumper on the 27th circuit. Brightman had relieved Bridgewater’s Dick Houlihan of that position, and Houlihan filled in behind. Lap 42 saw Jake Vanada get by Ferreira for pursuit of Houlihan. That left Ferreira in tenth, and there he remained as the final laps wound down.

Chadwick returns to SK Modified® Winner’s Circle, Galvin in Street Stocks; Cassidy and Turner split 50-lap Mini Stock races

Waterford, CT — Waterford Speedbowl was back in action Saturday night hosting the inaugural Four Cylinder Fury event, a six-event program. The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series action was highlighted by a 50-lap Mini Stock race, captured by Lisbon’s Ken Cassidy Jr., his second consecutive victory and third on the year in the division. Ledyard’s Tyler Chadwick came out on top of an entertaining SK Modified® feature, holding back the last lap charges of Kyle James of Ashaway, RI. Calvin Rose of Turner, ME dominated the second half of the 50-lap Northeast Mini Stock Tour race, going on to the win. Josh Galvin of Franklin won his second Street Stock race on the season, Dan D’addario of Columbia won the X-Car feature and Rose returned to victory lane to win the open-comp four cylinder race to close out the night’s festivities.

Frank Mucciacciaro blasted into the lead at the start of the 35-lap SK Modified® feature, however trouble began in turn three as the field worked lap-2 when contact turned Nichole Morgillo around from her place among the top-five. Keith Rocco and Jeff Pearl were both collected but suffered minimal contact in the incident.

The field went three wide for the lead into turn one on the restart, with Tom Abele looking to the inside of both Mucciacciaro and Glenn Pressel. Pressel came out on top after the field played bumper tag through turns one and two with everyone able to continue pointed in the right direction. Abele applied pressure to Pressel but couldn’t make a move to pull even, while Chadwick was advancing his position into the top three by lap-10.
