Second event of season for SK Light and X-Modifieds Saturday night

Waterford, CT  — This coming Saturday marks the second appearance of the season by the SK Light and X-Modifieds at the Speedbowl, competing in a 25-lap feature race. They are one of six divisions and seven main events on the June 18 Whelen Engineering Night race program, which is highlighted by twin 35-lap SK Modified features, making for a night of Modified mania at the Speedbowl.

The division, combining the Speedbowl’s X-Modifieds and the SK Light Modified division, was a popular addition in its first event of the year back on May 21. Paul French of Andover won that event, narrowly holding off the field in the closing laps. Just one caution period slowed the race, with French taking the victory after two-time track champion Richard “Bubby” Brouwer and ‘Bowl newcomer Steve Greer were rapidly cutting into the lead to challenge French on the final lap. Both drivers completed the podium finishers in the event.

Cars eligible for competition must comply with either the Waterford Speedbowl X-Modified or Stafford Motor Speedway SK Light rule books. Crossing of the two rules formats is not permitted. Rules for competition can be viewed by clicking here or visiting http://www.speedbowl.com/Uploads/Rules-SK-Light-Modified.pdf.

Tire eligibility includes Waterford Speedbowl SK Modified®, Stafford Motor Speedway SK Modified® or Stafford Motor Speedway SK Light Hoosier tires and tire inventory schedules are posted on Speedbowl.com, under the Saturday SK Light division dropdown menu listing.

Any additional eligibility questions should be directed to the track office.

The twin SK Modified® features will bookend a total of seven main events on Saturday night. Also part of the night’s events are a 30-lap Bob Valenti Auto Mall Late Model race, 25-lappers for the Street Stock and Mini Stock divisions plus the second 25-lap race of the year for the SK Light Modifieds which compete with the Speedbowl’s X-Modified division. The New England Truck Series, also making its second appearance of the season, will race 25-laps as well. A pit party precedes the main events, allowing fans opportunity to see the cars and meet the drivers. Post time for the pit party is approximately 6:15pm.
