USAC-DMA Midgets and SCoNE Sprint Cars Will Make History on July 2 at Bear Ridge Speedway

Bradford, VT – According to a trio of New England open cockpit racing historians, when the USAC-Dirt Midget Association and the Sprint Cars of New England appear on the same program at Bear Ridge Speedway on Saturday July 2, they’ll almost certainly be making history. It will be the first time that Midgets and Sprint Cars have ever appeared on the same bill in northern New England.

“I think this is probably a first,” said Dick Monahan of Newburyport, MA, 25 year member and former President of the NEMA Midgets. “During the 50’s and early 60’s URC Sprint Cars and ARDC Midgets ran the Champlain Valley Fair in Essex Junction, VT, but they ran on successive days. Each sanctioning body insisted on running its own show and did not want another one on the same bill.”

“It would take some serious research to figure that one out for sure,” said John DaDalt of Stafford Springs, CT “but I’m not aware of any split shows with Midgets and Sprint Cars in Maine, New Hampshire or Vermont.”

R.A. Silvia of Warwick, RI agrees. “My records go well back to the 30’s and I don't recall any totally split shows for the Sprint Cars and Midgets.”

The event will mark the third race of the season for both the USAC-DMA Midgets and the SCoNE Sprint Cars. Joe Krawiec has taken both USAC-DMA events while Dan Douville and Chris Donnelly have each taken a SCoNE win. They’ll all be looking for another win, but will face stiff competition from full fields of open cockpit hot shoes.

The open cockpit extravaganza will also feature a fireworks display courtesy of the evening’s sponsor, Noise R Us Fireworks and all the Bear Ridge Speedway regular divisions, headlined by the DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds and the Sportsman Coupes.
