Rocco, Cipriano, Casagrande & Casagrande Score July 1st First Niagara Night Feature Wins at Stafford

Stafford Springs, CT — Stafford Speedway was back in action on Friday, July 1st with a new event sponsor in First Niagara for the First Niagara Independence Day Fireworks Celebration. Keith Rocco was the big winner of the night as he doubled up by winning both the 40-lap SK Modified® feature event and the 30-lap Late Model feature, Joey Cipriano took his third feature win of the season in the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature, Cory Casagrande was the winner of the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature, and Cory’s brother Kyle Casagrande nailed down his third win of the season in the 15-lap DARE Stock feature.

In the 40-lap SK Modified® feature event, Sean Foster led the field from the pole position, but he went around in turn 2 on the very first lap to bring the caution out. Collected in the incident were the cars of Richie Pallai, Jr. and Mark Bakaj, who were both towed off the track.

Dan Avery was the leader back under green with Tom Bolles, Todd Owen, Eric Berndt behind him. Woody Pitkat was side by side with Curt Brainard for the fifth position, with Pitkat taking the spot. Owen moved past Bolles for second, which also brought Berndt past Bolles. The caution came out with 4 laps complete for a spin by Mike King.

Ted Christopher Continues WMT Dominance at Thompson; Rocco Tops in Sunoco Mods; O’Sullivan Brothers Share Victory Lane; Douton, Boss & Field Also Winners

Thompson, CT — The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour made its second visit of the season to Thompson International Speedway on Thursday night. Ted Christopher of Plainville, CT, made a late race surge to win his seven of the last nine WMT events held at the Connecticut oval. Keith Rocco of Wallingford, CT, waged a heated battle with Ryan Preece to score a victory in the Sunoco Modifieds.

Mike O’Sullivan of Springfield, MA, was victorious in the Super Model division. His triumph was matched by his brother Tommy O’Sullivan, also of Springfield, who scored his second straight Late Model feature win. Chris Douton of Waterford, CT, earned the victory in a rough-and-tumble Limited Sportsman feature. Glenn Boss of Danielson, CT, wired the field to score his first TIS Modified feature win of the season. Danny Field of Deep River, CT, continues to make history at Thompson International Speedway with his sixth consecutive victory in the Mini Stocks.

Ted Christopher of Plainville, CT, made a dramatic late race charge to win his first NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour race of the 2011. Christopher passed Ronnie Silk of Norwalk, CT, on lap 142 and held off Silk over the final restart for the win. Series point’s leader Rowan Pennink finished third. Defending Champion Bobby Santos of Franklin, MA, was fourth and Eric Berndt of Cromwell, CT, rounded out the top-five. Christopher, who set fast time and earned the pole, was forced to start the race from the rear of the field after missing the driver’s meeting. While Christopher struggled at the back of the pack, Pennink jumped to the lead and held the top spot until the first caution flew on lap 53. Pennink regained the lead on lap76 and held the top spot until Silk passed him following a caution on lap a lap 125 restart. Christopher made his final pit stop on lap 125 and restarted from deep in the pack. By lap 137 he was fourth. He moved to second on a lap 139 restart and three laps later made his pass for the win.
