UNOH Showdown This Weekend at Thompson

Thompson, CT — The much anticipated UNOH SHOWDOWN is set for this weekend at the Thompson International Speedway. Race fans have been looking forward to this first-time-ever event all season long.

The UNOH SHOWDOWN is unique in that the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour and the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour will share the same bill for the first time in north. Each Tour will compete in its own 125-lap feature event for purses in excess of $53,000.00 for each Tour. Upon completion of the two 125s, the field for the 50-Lap, $50,000.00+ SHOWDOWN will be assembled and the stage will be set for what could be one of the greatest battles in NASCAR Whelen Modified racing history. The driver who emerges as the victor will pocket some $15,000.00.

The best drivers from both Tours are expected to be on hand for this exciting event. Defending Whelen Modified Tour champion Bobby Santos will lead a long list of the best that the north has to offer including Ted Christopher who will be back behind the wheel of the red # 36 WMT car. Current points leader in the North Tour, Ronnie Silk, Rowan Pennink, Todd Szegedy, Mike Stefanik, Ryan Preece and Doug Coby are just some of those that will be on hand for the SHOWDOWN.

Analyzing The Whelen Modified Tour At Thompson

Daytona Beach, FL — The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will be joined for the first time by the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour for a new special event on Sept. 11 at Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway with the UNOH Showdown.

Selected Driver Highlights:
Eric Beers (No. 45 Chevrolet)
•  Has two wins, nine poles and 68 top 10s in 165 career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour starts.
•  Is fourth in points with seven top 10s in 11 races.
•  Leads all drivers in laps completed with 1,638, one shy of the entire season’s total.
•  Has a win, a pole and 16 top 10s in 43 career starts at TIS.

Jimmy Blewett (No. 76 Chevrolet)
•  Has five wins, a pole and 26 top 10s in 84 starts.
•  Has one top-10 in five appearances in 2011.
•  Has five top 10s in 22 starts at TIS, including a pair of runner-ups. Also has 10 DNFs.

Justin Bonsignore (No. 51 Chevrolet)
•  The 2010 Sunoco Rookie of the Year.
•  Has a win, two poles and 12 top 10s in 27 starts.
•  Is up to a career-best eighth in points with a win and five top-fives.
•  Has one top-five finish in five TIS races.

Waterford Speedbowl has cancelled tonight’s Wild N Wacky Wednesday program due to rain.

USAC DMA Midgets Return to Bear Ridge Speedway this Saturday, Added to New England Dirt Track Championship on September 24

Bradford, VT — The wingless wildcats of the USAC Dirt Midget Association return to Bear Ridge Speedway this Saturday night September 11 for what was scheduled to be their final appearance of the season. Fans of the DMA’s style of side-by-side, three wide, open cockpit, open wheel breathtaking action will be happy to hear that there are two more shows on tap.

In addition to this Saturday, September 10, the Midgets have been invited back to Bear Ridge for the season ending, New England Dirt Track Championship.

“We really appreciate the hospitality that Butch Ems and April May Preston have shown us at Bear Ridge and we’re looking forward to coming back next season,” said DMA founder Skip Matczak.

Analyzing the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour at Thompson

Daytona Beach, FL — The seventh  season of the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour  continues  at Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway with Southern Thompson 125 on Sunday, Sept. 11. The division will also match up with its NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour counterparts for the UNOH Showdown 50-lap race later on Sunday at the historic track located in northeast Connecticut.

Tim Brown (No. 02 Chevrolet)
• Finished second in the season-ending points standings a record three times from 2006-2008.

• Has 67 career NWSMT starts, ranks second in top-five finishes with 38 and has 56 top-10 finishes.
• Has six wins, the most recent came on Sept. 4, 2010 at Langley Speedway.

George Brunnhoelzl III (No. 09 Chevrolet)
• The 2009 NWSMT champion has returned to the tour in 2011 after competing full-time on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour last season.

• Competes for veteran car owner Howard Harvey.
• Owner of seven wins, 10 poles and 37 top 10s in 51 career NWSMT starts.
• Will make his third start at Thompson International Speedway this Sunday and has one top-10 finish.

Frank Fleming (No. 40 Ford)
• Is tied for the most career NWSMT starts with 80 and has only missed one race since 2005.

• Was credited with his first career win as the highest finishing NWSMT driver in the UNOH Perfect Storm 150 at Bristol Motor Speedway.
• Has finished second seven times, the most recent one at Caraway was on July 3, 2009.
• Has more than 50 career wins at his home track, Bowman Gray.
• Will be his first start at Thompson since finishing 18th in 1986.
• Brother, Chris Fleming, serves as his crew chief.
