Diverse Team to Officiate Annual North-South Shootout

Asheboro, NC — Over the last several months, a number of changes have been announced for the ninth annual North-South Shootout ™ for 2011. After eight successful years, the event has been moved to Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, NC. There will be new management in place for the 2011 event and there will be a host of new personnel.

Among the new personnel for 2011, competitors will also encounter many familiar faces. Shootout “veterans” will work alongside Caraway Speedway officials to ensure fair and equitable treatment to all competitors.

Some long-time Shootout officials will be taking on new responsibilities while others will remain in their familiar roles. Robert Pettit will serve as the Race Director under the Caraway Speedway Management for the 2011 installment of the event. Pettit has worked as an official with the North-South Shootout since its inception. He was a long-time official and Series Director for Southern Modified Auto Racers Tour (SMART) and continues to work as a NASCAR official at Bowman Gray Stadium. For the first time, Joe Larsen, an official with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, will be part of the team as well.

Larsen joins a full staff that will be available to assist Pettit. Other staff members are expected to be named in the coming weeks. Additional information regarding the complete team of officials will be forthcoming.

Jay Shea is joining the Shootout officiating staff for 2011 to oversee all tech for the SK-Type Modifieds. Shea has been a NASCAR Official at the Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford Springs, CT, for 13 years. He has is currently the Head Technical Inspector for the SK Modifieds, a position he has held for the last five season. Assisting Shea will be John Johnson, a 12-year veteran at Stafford.

Dale Wolbrink will remain part of the team handling race weekend administrative and handicapping tasks. Caraway Speedway officials will operate in their normal role for the race weekend.

Hoosier Tire South will serve as the official race tire supplier for the North-South Shootout. A familiar team led by Gary Freeman will work with racers throughout the weekend. Chad Kepley and his signature red trailers will be on hand to outfit the competitors and fans alike with North-South Shootout apparel and other souvenirs.

Despite all these changes, one thing will remain constant, C&C Racing Promotions’ commitment to the competitors and fans that have made the annual North-South Shootout one of short track racing’s most prestigious events.

The ninth Annual John Blewett III Memorial North-South Shootout will be presented in loving memory of Charles Kepley, the event founder. Keeping with tradition, the annual event will feature the Tour-Type Modifieds in 125-laps of green flag racing. The Super Late Models, SK-Type Modifieds, and IMCA Modifieds will also be part of the excitement.
