Stafford Motor Speedway CARQUEST Champions for Charities Driver Spotlight: Justin Bonsignore

Stafford Springs, CT — Stafford Motor Speedway has again lined up an impressive field of current and former open wheel champions for its CARQUEST Champions For Charities Event as part of CARQUEST Super Saturday on June 30th. During the coming weeks, SMS will offer a profile on each of its championship winning drivers and the charity they will be racing for and this week’s CARQUEST Champions For Charities spotlights falls on 2011 Riverhead Raceway Modified champion Justin Bonsignore, who will be racing to support the Trinca Family Memorial Trust.

On October 8, 2011, while on their way to Riverhead Raceway where Jason Trinca competed in the karting club, a tragic car accident took the lives of mother Keri and son Jason, also leaving daughter Marialena and son Christopher with very serious injuries. Since then, both children have been recovering, with Marialena still in the hospital. Donations are being taken to help the effort of allowing father Jason to be by his daughters side 24/7.

“The Trinca family raced at the Riverhead Karting Club where I raced and we became good friends off the track,” said Bonsignore. “An accident like that is a tragedy for any family to have to go through and I’m hoping that we can raise as much money as possible to be able to help out Jason, Marialena, and Christopher. The race should be a good time, it’s all for fun and no business.”

Bonsignore will kick off his fundraising efforts this Saturday, March 3rd at the Occupy the Oval R/C Charity Race, which will be taking place at R/C Madness in Enfield, CT. Bonsignore will be joined by the likes of Rick Fuller, Mike Stefanik, Reggie Ruggiero, Todd Szegedy, and Donny Lia in a charity R/C race utilizing replica’s of Mario Fiore’s famous #44 from the Whelen Modified Tour. There will be three classes of racing and the entry fee is $25 per class with $20 from each class fee getting donated to the Trinca Family Memorial Fund.

“I told the promoter that I hadn’t raced R/C cars in a while, so I’m just hoping I don’t crash too bad,” said Bonsignore. “The race should be a lot of fun, there’s going to be a lot of greats from the modified division and it’s going to be cool to be able to race against them.”

Bonsignore is also looking forward to returning to Stafford with his #51 M3 Technology Whelen Modified Tour ride. After finishing outside the top-10 in the first 3 Stafford events of 2011, Bonsignore had a great run in the CARQUEST Fall Final event, scoring pole position and leading 79 laps before finishing 10th. Bonsignore is hoping to build upon that Fall Final success in the four Stafford races during the 2012 season.

“We love coming to Stafford,” said Bonsignore. “We’ve had some really decent runs, we just haven’t had the finishes to show for it. We brought a new car to the Fall Final and we were able to put it on pole. We ended up leading a bunch of laps before we got caught up in traffic. We feel like we have a good package for Stafford and we’re looking forward to the 2012 season, we think we have a good shot at it this year.”
