Bonsignore Ready to Contend for Whelen Tour Title
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour has crowned a first-time champion in four of the previous five years, a trend that favors the challenger more than the incumbent. Justin Bonsignore is one of the aspiring title contenders that hopes to take a strong step toward his first title as the 2012 season opens on Sunday, April 15 in the Icebreaker at Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway.
Ron Silk captured his first Whelen Modified Tour championship last fall with a successful and consistent campaign. With the calendar now turned, he’ll have his hands full fending off a field of contenders such as the third-year driver Bonsignore.
Bonsignore, from Holtsville on New York’s Long Island, earned Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors in 2010 when he finished 13th in the standings. Last year, while simultaneously putting together a championship season in NASCAR Whelen All-American Series action at Long Island’s Riverhead Raceway, he jumped to seventh in the Tour’s final points with a furious second half run.

Thompson, CT — The season-opening Icebreaker race will be run this weekend, April 14th & 15th, at the Thompson International speedway. Thompson’s Icebreaker, a two-day event and the most anticipated race of the year, will feature seven different NASCAR racing divisions topped by the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour.
Joining the WMT will be Thompson’s “Super 6” NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions. The “Super 6” includes the Sunoco Modified, Super Late Models, Thompson Modifieds, Late Models, Xtra Mart Limited Sportsman and the Monster Mini Stocks.
For fans and competitors alike, Thompson’s Icebreaker is much more than a special race weekend. The Icebreaker is a renewal of the competitive spirit, friendships, and rivalries that have been hibernating since the track’s World Series event last October.

Loudon, NH — When the rubber meets the road this summer at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, fans will have Town Fair Tire to thank for it. The region's best known tire retailer is joining the speedway family and the 2012 race season in a major way. The Connecticut-based company will be the title sponsor for NASCAR’s Whelen Modified Tour race on Saturday, July 14.
The Town Fair Tire 100 will be part of “The Magic Mile’s” action packed Saturday during the LENOX Industrial Tools 301 weekend. The mighty modifieds will race prior to the NASCAR Nationwide Series New England 200 and the day will close out with a new form of racing with the Global RallyCross Championship event.
“This is a huge win for us and I am excited to join forces with one of the best known names in tire sales,” says Jerry Gappens, executive vice president and GM of NHMS. “It’s important to have the support of local businesses like Town Fair Tire, and we hope this is the beginning of a long relationship together.”
