Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesdays back at ‘Bowl May 2

Popular mid-week race program continues its focus on affordable family fun

Waterford, CT — Waterford Speedbowl’s mid-week Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday racing program returns May 2, commencing a 21-week campaign. As it has done since 2001, the popular Wednesday evening program’s focus is on affordable family fun and memorable on-track action.

Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday offers adult grandstands admission of just $8.00 with all youth ages 14 and under receiving free grandstands admission. Another mainstay at the Speedbowl – acres of free event parking – returns for all events in 2012 continuing the track’s reputation as a value-priced, family night out.

Track promoter Terry Eames points to the track’s history in the region as a low-cost entertainment option. “The Speedbowl has offered an incredible amount of entertainment for not a lot of money for 61 years. Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday is all about providing fun family experiences at low prices. A twenty dollar bill goes pretty far on Wednesdays at the ‘Bowl”.

Affordable concessions offers fans everything from soft serve ice-cream, meatball subs, sausage and pepper grinders and other track favorites such as fried dough and a Speedbowl pizza recipe popular for decades. Gates open at 5:30pm on Wednesdays, meaning ample time to take in the many options the Speedbowl’s midway offers fans. Racing gets started at 7:00pm. Events are structured to allow fans and competitors to work their day jobs, enjoy an evening of racing and fun, and be on their way home at a reasonable hour as most events wrap up around 9:00pm.

No less than four divisions of racing make up each Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday, including Legend Cars, Bandoleros, Super X-Cars and X-Cars. A weekly wacky race plus other attractions round out the schedule of events for the season.

The Bandolero division showcases racing stars of tomorrow, as youths age 8 through their teen years develop their skills behind the wheel and offer up action that leave many spectators in amazement at the level of competition.

Legend Cars are the next step for many developing racers, with some as young as age 12 and many teenage competitors competing for national bragging rights. Rivalries are born as they take on veterans of the racing wars. Fierce battles play out on the track, resulting in some of the best racing action found in the entire Legend Cars division across the country.

The X-Car and Super X-Car divisions are back as a strong foundation of the affordable nature of Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesdays. Entry level four and eight cylinder racing divisions enable those looking to work their way into the sport or seeking the thrill of competition on a smaller budget ample track time. Three and sometimes four-wide racing breaks out in often-unpredictable racing action. The same divisions participate in a weekly “wacky” race, rotating through various novelty races over the course of the Wednesday season. Points will be kept and awarded to those participating, culminating in a wacky champion being crowned for each the X-Car and Super X-Car divisions.

Double Bandolero features, vintage racing exhibitions and even a visit by the legendary Northeastern Midget Assocation’s NEMA Lite division on August 15 highlight the summer calendar on Wednesday nights.
