Kevin Casper picks up first Pro Stock victory; Jeramee Lillie wins 50 lap Late Model feature; Crystal Serydynski claims Street Stock honors; Mike Cavallaro wins Sport Truck main

Seekonk, MA – In the 40 lap Pro Stock feature, Kevin Casper of Somerset held on and picked up his first career Pro Stock win. Casper jumped out front on the opening lap, and needed a timely caution on lap 34 to hold on to the lead. Over the course of the race, Casper had several challengers, including younger brother Kyle Casper. The pair battled for several laps before Mike Brightman moved into the runner up spot. Brightman put some pressure on Casper, but was being chased down by Tom Scully Sr. The pair ran one-two-three for the middle portion of the race before Ryan Vanasse worked his way on the outside, and edged past Casper as they crossed the start finish line on lap 35. Fortunately for Kevin, the caution came out before the lap was completed, and Vanasse was forced to try it again on the outside.

As they came back for the green, Casper and Vanasse raced side by side for the final five laps, with Casper edging Vanasse for the win. Ryan would hold on to finish second, with Brightman, Dave Darling and Tom Scully Sr rounding out the top five.

Jeramee Lille of West Warwick, RI took over the lead on a lap 30 restart, and never looked back as he picked up his second win of the season. Ron Barboza of Warren jumped out to the lead early, but on a lap five restart, the tires spun, and he spun out in front of the field, collecting several cars, including Dave Hutchins Jr and Bobby Pelland III. Dylan Estrella of North Attleboro took over the lead, and set a comfortable pace over the rest of the field.

Hinckley Nabs Ricky’s Race at Canaan

Canaan, NH — Les Hinckley III, of Windsor Locks, CT., started third in a 21-car field, took the lead on lap 38, and went on to  win the 112-lap ‘Ricky’s Race For Kids’ event at Canaan Fair  Speedway, Canaan, NH., Saturday night before a large crowd. The win was Hinckley’s second this season, his third at Canaan, and his 17th career victory with the Valenti Modified Racing Series

The race is an annual event organized by retired racing legend Donnie Miller and his family in honor of Ricky Miller who  passed away in 2004 from race related injuries. The event also benefits David’s House, a home away from home for families with sick children.

Hinckley chased pole-sitter Jon McKennedy at the drop of the  green flag staying right behind the leader until he passed the Chelmsford, MA., driver. The only pressure Hinckley received came late in the race following a lap 102 caution flag. Chris Pasteryak, of Lisbon, CT., challenged the race leader but Hinckley was never headed.

Pasteryak settled for second, point leader, Rowan Pennink, of Huntingdon Valley, PA., came home third, McKennedy finished fourth, with Dwight Jarvis, of Ascutney, VT., fifth.

Waterford Speedbowl 7/14 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Results

Waterford, CT– Waterford Speedbowl returned to action Saturday evening with another round of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing after a week hiatus for the track’s summer break. The spotlight was on the track’s INEX Legend Cars division as it competed in a special 50-lap feature presented by Big Y World Class Markets. Matt Pappa of Nassau, NY was the big winner, scoring the INEX Legend Cars race victory by coming out on top of a final lap duel. Keith Rocco of Meriden scored two wins on the night in NASCAR action, scoring both the SK Modified® and Bob Valenti Auto Mall Late Model features. Josh Galvin of Franklin won the night’s Street Stock race and Mark Panaroni of Ivoryton picked up the victory in the Mini Stock feature. The Bandolero race was won by Ken Morin Jr. of Old Saybrook.

Rocco reached the front in a hurry in the night’s 35-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series feature. Rookie competitor Al Stone led the opening lap before giving way to Joe Perry. Rocco made moves early to place himself in the top-three runners by lap-4. Rocco first went by the inside of Joe Gada then Perry two laps later to race into the lead. The first caution slowed the race on lap-10 when division newcomer Eddie LeClerc spun in turn four. One lap later, LeClerc spun in the same spot to bring out the second caution flag.

Keith Rocco led twin brother Jeff Rocco to the restart into turn one. Kyle James raced underneath Jeff Rocco to take second position with Tyler Chadwick looking to join the top-three, finding room to Jeff Rocco’s inside. Rocco held off the charge and settled into third as Chadwick tucked in line fourth. Gada rounded out the top-five ahead of a battle for sixth that saw contact result in cars further back in the pack stacking up in turn three, sending Rich Brooks spinning for the third caution on lap-12.

Veteran Edges Silk By .003 Of A Second At Line

LOUDON, N.H. – Who says the older drivers can’t mix it up with the young ones? Mike Stefanik proved he can still take home checkered flags.

“I am just happy this old man can mix it up with the young guys out here,” said the 54-year-old Stefanik after climbing out of the No. 66 Canto & Sons Paving/Robert B Our Co. Ford in Victory Lane. “I asked my spotter how many to go. She said 5 to go. I counted two more and went for it.”

NOTEBOOK: Crew Chief Makes Difference

Stefanik Credits Lafontaine With Win At New Hampshire

LOUDON, N.H. – Before Mike Stefanik won the Granite State Classic last season, he had gone 13 years between victories at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

He hardly waited that long to make a return trip to the Magic Mile's Victory Lane.

In the second-closest NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour finish in track history, Stefanik inched past Ron Silk to win the Town Fair Tire 100 on Saturday afternoon. It was the eighth career Modified win for Stefanik at New Hampshire – a series-high – and the 72nd career Tour win for the all-time Tour leader.

“This is huge, man,” Stefanik said. “This is New Hampshire. It doesn't get any better than this in our division.”

Emotional, Dominating NEMA Win For Cantor

Lee, NH – Dedicating the performance to his gravely ill stepfather Joe DeMonte, Adam Cantor dominated the 25-lap Northeastern Midget Association Friday night at Lee USA Speedway. Driving a new Reider chassis numbered 33 in honor of DeMonte for only the second time, the Long Islander led every circuit and won by almost half a lap.

After a series of early restart challenges from Todd Bertand (Bertrand 39), Cantor, who started second, took the lead for good on lap nine and romped to victory. “Finally got rid of the bugs,” understated Cantor whose feature efforts followed an equally dominating heat triumph.

Coming from the eighth starting spot, point leader John Zych Jr., (Zych 9) took second place from Bertrand with a daring move in turn one with 11 laps gone. Bertrand held on for third with Russ Stoehr (Dumo’s Desire 45) and Randy Cabral (Bertrand 47) completing the top five.

Medeiros Doubles Up At Lee

Lee, NH – Carl Medeiros Jr. ended a streak of 36 Northeastern Midget Association Lites races without back-to-back winners and he did it in a single night at Lee USA Speedway Friday. He won the 25-lapper rescheduled from June 22 and then came back to capture the regularly scheduled event, doing both in dramatic style. It all came 11 days before his 16th birthday.

“What a night,” said Medeiros who dedicated the first win to his grandparents. It ended a run of frustration for the family team that posted a couple seconds last year and had two impressive runs this season.

Coming from the 12th starting spot in the opener, Medeiros took the lead from Jake Smith on lap 12 with a daring move out of four. Sitting behind a Smith-Bethany Stoehr battle, Medeiros passed them both on the outside. He went into one with a clear advantage and then romped to the checkered in the caution-free event, posting a race-best 14.510 lap.
