Thompson’s Super Late Models Return to Thompson This Week for Round Three

Thompson, CT — The NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Super Late Models return to the Thompson International Speedway this Thursday, July 19, for their third appearance of the season. Running a limited schedule this season, the Super Late Models have provided fans with thrills, spills and just plain hard racing on Icebreaker weekend in April and during their second appearance in June.

Large numbers of Super Late Models turned out for their 50-lap feature events that offer additional money for the extra distance races. Derek Ramstrom bested the Icebreaker field when he crossed the finish line ahead of Mike O’Sullivan and Jim Banfield. Banfield came roaring back to win the June race ahead of Colby Fournier and Ramstrom. Ramstrom may be on a hot streak as he captured the PASS Super Late Model 75-lap main at Thompson just last week.

Defending division champ, Larry Gelinas, has scored a top 5 and a top 10 finish in his two outings and looks to be in victory lane at the end of this week’s 50 lapper. George Bessette, Dick Houlihan, Jeff Hartwell and Scott Rutherforth, all of whom have had very solid runs, will also be looking for a win.

The Super Late Models will join Thompson’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series “Super 6” weekly divisions to make up a 7-division race program. Grandstands will open at 4 PM with Qualifying slated to get underway at 6 PM. The seven feature events will follow on the action packed night of racing.

The following week, Thursday, July 26th will mark the return of the Valenti Modified Racing Series. This extremely popular touring series will be making its second and final appearance of the year at Thompson and will face a 75-lap main event. Many of the very best Modified drivers in the northeast compete in the VMRS and all are expected to be on hand for this special event.
