QUALIFYING: Preece Tops at Bowman Gray

Mod Tour Points Leader Wins Second SoMod Pole

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Quick turnarounds are routine for Ryan Preece.

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour points leader raced Friday night at Stafford (Conn.) Motor Speedway and quickly headed south for his second career outing at Bowman Gray Stadium. The 22-year-old out of Berlin, Conn., won the Coors Light Pole Award for the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour’s Kevin Powell Motorsports 199 on Saturday. He made his way around the cozy quarter-mile oval in 13.313 seconds for an average speed of 67.603 mph.

It’s Preece’s second pole in as many outings in the southern tour this season after claiming the prize earlier in the season at Southern National Motorsports Park in Kenly, N.C.

Fellow New Englander Andy Seuss of Hampstead, N.H., will start from the outside pole position after qualifying with a time of 13.349 seconds (67.421 mph). Burt Myers, a Bowman Gray regular, qualified third at 13.391 seconds (67.209 mph) followed by rookie Cole Powell with a time of 13.396 seconds (67.184 mph).

Woody Pitkat, Southern Modified Tour points leader George Brunnhoelzl III, Cody Ware, Tim Brown, John Smith and Danny Bohn rounded out the top-10 qualifiers.

Preece, who is in the running for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national championship, often races three times a week at three different tracks.

The Kevin Powell Motorsports 199 is expected to go green at approximately 8:40 p.m. ET.
