Lee USA Oktoberfest Results

Lee, NH – With well over 300 race teams in attendance for the season-ending Oktoberfest event, action was the name of the game, and lots of familiar names were playing. Among the weekend highlights was the culmination of Rowan Pennink’s championship drive in the Valenti Modified Racing Series, taking his first series title aboard the Gary Casella-owned Roscoe Racing entry.

Tommy Barrett grabbed his second consecutive Oktoberfest victory in the 100-lap feature event, which ran well past the halfway mark before the first caution waved to slow the action, but in the end, Barrett won the battle, and Pennink won the war.

Steve Masse collected runner-up honors after leading the event in the late going, with former Lee USA regular and three-time VMRS champion Jon McKennedy of Chelmsford, MA coming on strong in the late laps to take third in the Art Barry entry.

Dave Farrington, Jr. of Jay, ME came from the last row on the grid to score an impressive win in the Pro Stock/Super Late Model main event, with longtime Lee Late Model competitor Bryan Kruczek taking second, and Jeff Fagan rounding out the podium in the third spot.

After a late-race spin knocked him out of contention late in the Pro Stock main, multi-time Lee USA and two-time ACT champion Wayne Helliwell of nearby Dover bounced back in impressive fashion in the Late Model feature event, running off to an impressive win in the Bruce Bernhardt entry over Aaron Fellows and A.J. Panessiti.

Lee regular Jimmy Russell defended the home turf in the Late Model Sportsman feature, holding off all challengers to collect the prestigious Oktoberfest checkered flag to make his second victory lane appearance of the year in the curtain closer.

The NEMA Midgets put their caution-free 25-lap feature event in the record books in just under six minutes, with veteran Randy Cabral picking up his second straight Oktoberfest win when the checkers waved. Ian Cumens, Jim Chambers, John Zych, Jr., Todd Bertrand, Anthony Nocella, Seth Carlson, Paul Scally, Joey Payne, and Russ Stoehr closed out the top ten.

NEMA Lites action saw Danny Cugini score his second career Lee win, but it was Carl Medeiros, Jr. coming out on top of the season points battle. Andy Barrows collected second place honors in the back-up Kenney Johnson machine, making up nicely for his last visit to Lee USA, when he took a wild flip down the front straightaway and destroyed his own car during the July 12 main event.

Lee USA Small Block Supermodified regular Jake Stergios scored a solid third place finish, with 2013 Lites champion Carl Medeiros, Jr. fourth over Brandon Igo, Kenney Johnson, DJ Moniz , NEMA Midget winner Randy Cabral, Ryan Bigelow and the winner’s sister, Megan Cugini.

Lee USA’s 2013 Small Block Supermodified champ Tommy Tombarello put an exclamation point on his championship season with a dominating win in the 30-lap Oktoberfest feature event, outrunning Mike Spurling, Sparky MacIver, Leslie Keyser, Mike Netishen, Tony Carroll, Ryan Gath, Dave Papuga, Jim Barker, and Bill Kimball for the win.

2012 Hobby Stock champion Jim Shorey took the first of two Hobby Stock feature events over Alby Ovitt, Slammin’ Sammy Peabody, Mike White and Dennis Dumas, while Scott Serydynski outran Niko Maniatis and his niece Crystal Serydynski in the second.

Emerson Cayer took down the checkers in the first of two 4-cylinder main events, and he outran 2012 winner Bryan Lancaster to grab the Outlaw Mini Stock win as well. Dan Stone won the second 4-cylinder main, while Bob Murphy grabbed the Enduro win.

The Ironman Super Series saw Troy Washburn win the first segment on Saturday night, and Wayne Osborne take down the second segment win on Sunday. Gerard Cote of Oxford, ME won the overall title, taking down a $1,000 payday for his efforts.
