Change is in the Air…

With the 2013 American Canadian Tour Banquet of champions behind them, Wayne Helliwell Jr. and the Bruce Bernhardt Motorsport’s Team are full steam ahead with 2014 plans.

Plans that will look very different than years past for the Pelham NH based Team. First and foremost there will be no three-peat for the 27NH machine atop the ACT standings. Helliwell says they are going outlaw with their schedule for the year and they have no plans to compete full time on the Vermont based tour.

“We’re looking to expand on things”, says Helliwell. “We have no plans to stick with any one series this year. We have a new Pro Stock that is just about complete… We’ll be running all of the [late model and pro stock] traveling series at some point this year.”

The Dover, NH driver says it’s just progression with him and owner Bruce Bernhardt. “We’ve achieved more than we ever thought was possible with ACT. We want to get away from running a full time series for a few years. We built this pro stock chassis about a year ago and have just been waiting till the time is right to finish it. It’s just the next step for us.”

Team owner Bruce Bernhardt has filed registration forms with the American Canadian Tour, Pro All Star Series North & South and the Granite State Pro Stock series.

“We just love to race,” says Helliwell. “Circumstances prevented us from running more than we really wanted to last year. Years past we have always competed multiple times a week. It just comes down to racing when and what best suits our Team. There is really nothing more to it than that.”

Helliwell says they have no set schedule as of yet; they plan on setting monthly schedules that best fit them at that given time in 2014.

“It’s all unknown right now… We have compiled all the schedules together and will choose as we go. I know there will be a lot of multi-race weekends. Plus we would like to venture to Thompson [Speedway] some as well, with most of their shows being mid-week.”

The Bernhardt Motorsports Team know they will kick the season off with both the pro stock and late model at Thompson Speedway’s annual “Ice Breaker” on April 5th and 6th. The following weekend they will head to Lee USA Speedway for round one of the American Canadian Tour on April 13th.

“Its gonna be a be a busy year for sure… I’m tired already,” says Helliwell.
