SK 5k Race Format Left Up to the Fans

Stafford Springs, CT — In preparation for the 2014 season Stafford Motor Speedway has made multiple announcements that will put a fresh look on weekly racing at the half-mile. One of the headline events for the 2014 season is the SK 5k on July 4th. Stafford has already announced the largest purse in SK Modified® history paying $5,000 to the winner and over $27,000 in total purse money up for grabs, but now a new never before seen twist will be added to the all-new July 4th event.

“We are really happy to give the SK Modified® drivers a chance to race for some extra purse money,” said Mark Arute, COO/GM of Stafford Speedway. “They put on the best racing in the country week in and week out and we thank them for that, but we needed to throw a curveball at this event.”

The fans will play a direct role in the July 4th SK 5k race as they will choose the entire race format from lap count to qualifying procedure. Fans will be allowed to vote on every aspect of the July 4th SK Modified® race. Voting will take place at www.staffordmotorspeedway.com up until the night of the SK 5k. But before voting opens Stafford Speedway officials would like to hear insight from the fans on what to include on the SK 5k ballot. Stafford Speedway encourages everyone to share their ideas on Stafford Speedway social media and as well as any other media outlets. The voting will begin in late March.

“When we announced the purse for the SK 5K a few weeks back we really enjoyed hearing all the input on race format,” continued Mark Arute, “so we thought why not leave it completely up to the fans. We hope people weigh in and throw some ideas out there on what we should include on the SK 5k ballot.”

To add to the madness Stafford officials have also decided to put one more spin on the already unique event. One of the voting options will be the number of laps that the race will be. At the conclusion of the voting the top three lap counts, as voted on by the fans, will be put into a hat and the driver on the pole for the SK 5k will select at random one of the three lap counts. Whatever amount is chosen will be the distance the SK Modifieds® will go. The entire random lap selection process will occur when the cars are on the grid right before the SK 5k race is about to begin. The drivers and crews will have no time to prepare as they will not know the race distance until the cars are on track ready to go.

This one of a kind event promises to be exciting and entertaining as drivers and crews will have to decide how to go about preparation for the event. Log onto Facebook, Twitter, or whatever social media you use and let us know what you want to see on the SK 5k ballot. No ideas will be overlooked; Stafford wants the fans to speak.
