DJ Shaw Wins Exciting Star Speedway 150

EPPING, NH — DJ Shaw scored his second Pro All Stars Series main event for 2014 this past Saturday night at Star Speedway in Epping, New Hampshire, as he survived a torrid battle with Cassius Clark and then Richie Dearborn to claim the Star Speedway 150. Shaw has now captured a PASS South and a PASS North victory this season as he won the Easter Bunny 150 at Hickory Speedway on Easter Sunday.

Derek Ramstrom and Johnny Clark brought the field to green with Ramstrom controlling the lead until the first caution flew for a Tyler Fiscus spin in turn two. On the ensuing restart Johnny Clark got the jump, with Wayne Helliwell Jr. in hot pursuit. Clark led the way until caution flew again as Scott Dragon and Curtis Gerry tangled in turn four. Clark got the jump again and opened up a three car length advantage when Helliwell suddenly fell off the pace and pitted for the remainder of the event. This allowed DJ Shaw to pull into second, Ramstrom was third followed by Cassius Clark and Joey Doiron.

A three car spin brought out the third caution of the night, and Shaw was quickest on the restart, but Clark retook the lead, racing by on the high side on lap 50. Bryan Kruczek rolled to a stop in turn two bringing out the caution on lap 59. Johnny Clark regained the lead and Cassius Clark was glued to his rear bumper. Shaw, Mike Rowe and Richie Dearborn all were in contention when something broke on Travis Benjamin’s mount and he came to an abrupt halt in turn two, thus ending his night. Cassius Clark took over the lead on the ensuing restart and lead til lap 125 when all hell broke loose in front of the leaders. Clark had to slip through on the high side giving Shaw the lead on the restart. Shaw opened up a two car advantage over Cassius Clark and Richie Dearborn, with a fast emerging Joey Polewarczyk slipping into fourth spot ahead of Johnny Clark.

Cassius Clark’s hope for victory ended on lap 138 as he and Dearborn touched and Clark spun out of contention bringing out the final caution for the night. Shaw once again jumped to the point with Dearborn hanging on for second. Mike Rowe slipped by Joey Pole to grab the 3rd spot and that is how they finished. Fifth spot went to Johnny Clark, followed by Ramstrom, David Oliver, Glen Luce, Curtis Gerry and Brent Dragon.

Heat checkers flew for Ramstrom, Helliwell Jr., and Johnny Clark.

The PASS Mods once again put on a tremendous show for the crowd, and when the dust settled, Mark Lucas scored the popular win over Mitch Miller, and hometown favorite JR Baril. Ron Henry and Scott McDaniel completed the top five. Sixth through tenth positions went to Doug McClure, Ryan Phillips, Andy Saunders, Travis Buzzell and Chad Binnette. Ryan Robbins and Lucas won their respective qualifiers.

The PASS North Series invades Autodrome Chaudière this coming Saturday.
