Speedway Wraps Up Wacky Wednesday Season

Travis Beale of Hampden raced his way to a second consecutive points championship in the Modified Enduro class Wednesday night at Speedway 95 as he chased down Hermon’s Andrew Crosby, passing him on the last lap of the 20 lap feature to take the win for the night and the overall points title for the season. Crosby started the race on the pole, and led for the first 19 laps, until Beale ducked under him on the final circuit and forced him to the high side, where a slower car prohibited him from racing Beale to the checkers. Crosby finished in second with last week’s winner Dustin Lancaster of Milo finishing third. Zach Audet of Skowhegan could only muster a fourth place finish on the night, with Dustan Durrell of Newburgh finishing fifth.

In the Stock Enduros, Donny Silva of Hudson came from a 21st place start to take the win in the 33 car field that was stopped several times for accidents and debris on the track. It was Silva’s third win of the season in the newly formed division for 2014. Following Silva under the checkered flag were Robert Caruso of Kenduskeag in second and Gene Trojano II of Hudson in third. Fourth went to Sean Davis of Bangor with Bradley Dolan of Glenburn finishing fifth. Jordan Harnish of Veazie won the first points championship in the division, and his career first in his rookie season as a race car driver.

Jeff Overlock Jr. of Hermon won the season finale in the full size pickup trucks after a spirited battle with second place finisher Peter Drake of Corinth. The pair raced side by side for most of the caution free 20 lap feature until Overlock pulled ahead in the closing laps to seal his third win in a row. Drake finished second with Andrew Crosby of Hermon in third. Dana Harlow of Orrington finished fourth and Jim Carr Jr. of Clifton finished fifth, once again taking the points championship in the division.

Trey Brown of Winterport closed out the season in the Stars of Tomorrow with his fourth feature victory and the points championship. Brown made his way to the front from an 8th place start, taking advantage of his experience in the division for 12 to 15 year olds, as others fell by the wayside causing the race to be ended by the 20 minute time limit rather than the full 15 lap distance. Marcus Dunn of Newburgh finished second, followed by Caleb Kalel of Stillwater in third, Lexie Roach of Brewer fourth and Nicholas Cota of Greenville in fifth.

Speedway 95 returns to action on Saturday, August 30 at 7:00 with the Dysart’s Late Models, Pepsi Beverage Company Strictly Streets, Coca-Cola Sport-Fours and a 75 lap feature for the Maine Outlaw Super Series.
