Kennedy Eyes Rebound at Texas

Ben Kennedy of Daytona Beach, FL enters Friday’s WinStar World Casino and Resort 350 looking to stop a trend. With four top 10s in his last 12 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts, Kennedy has dropped from sixth to eighth in standings since Iowa in July. A string of bad luck has hampered Kennedy’s finishes lately including brake problems, a broken hub and running out of fuel.

“We’re looking forward to Texas because we brought a brand new truck here and we’ve got some new stuff that we’re going to try out,” Kennedy said. “So I’m looking forward to it and really the next three races we’ve got Texas, Phoenix, and Homestead ,which I ran last year so I’ve got experience at all three of those racetracks, which is kind of uncommon for me this year.

Kennedy will only have multiple starts at six tracks through the end of the season: Bristol, Chicagoland, Homestead, Iowa, Martinsville, and Texas. Kennedy has three NASCAR K&N Pro Series West starts at Phoenix in 2011-12.

Rocco Rolls to Seventh Straight Conn. Crown

Also Took Home Fourth NASCAR Track Title At Waterford

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Keith Rocco is in the business of collecting checkered flags and championships, and for the seventh year in a row, business was good.

The 29-year-old wheelman from Wallingford, Connecticut, first captured the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series championship in The Nutmeg State in 2008. He has yet to relinquish the title.

Rocco’s seventh state title was earned with 16 wins, 35 top fives and an additional five top 10s in 46 starts between the Connecticut short-track triangle of Waterford Speedbowl, Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park and Stafford Motor Speedway.

Those numbers were good enough to place him on the national championship podium for the sixth year in a row and the final margin of victory in the Connecticut standings was 65 points over Ryan Preece.

New Ride for Timmy Solomito

‘The Natural’ in Flamingo Motorsports Car for 2015

Timmy Solomito of Islip, NY will drive the No. 16 Modified for Eric Sanderson on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour next season. The rumor mill has been churning since Ryan Preece announced his departure from Flamingo Motorsports on October 20, one day after winning the Sunoco World Series. One year removed from winning a championship, Preece is moving to Eddie Partridge’s No. 6 TS Haulers Motorsports car.

Solomito did not have anything set going into the season finale at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park. He expected to return to Anderson’s No. 75 car or at least run part time.

Flamingo Motorsports Crew Chief Sly Szaban asked Solomito’s car owner Wayne Anderson within days of the season finale about their plans for 2015. Szaban expressed interest in Solomito driving for Flamingo Motorsports. Anderson, the 1994 series champion, was supportive of the 22-year-old driver’s opportunity.

Born to Race: On Fast Track from Michigan

Jones’ Journey From Farm Town To NASCAR’s Next

A sleepy farm town of just over 500 people nestled between Detroit and the Great Lakes, Byron, Michigan, is quite the distance from the stock car racing hotbeds of the southeastern United States.

Against all odds, one of its own has risen through the motorsports ranks and is experiencing success on NASCAR’s national stage. Erik Jones, 18, with already three NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victories to his credit, is considered one of the sport’s brightest young prospects.

Coming from a family with little-to-no roots in auto racing, as well as an area rabid about hockey and football, how did Jones even get into sport?

“It was always something I wanted to do,” Jones said. “I remember being 6-years-old just wishing I could drive on the street and be able to go places. It was always a love of cars and wanting to drive them.”

STN Saturday – Everything You Need to Know!

STN action Kocak

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (October 25, 2014) – Three wildly intense nights of action are in the books atop the famed red clay. And now it really ratchets up as a $15,000 winner’s share is on the line in Saturday’s 27th Annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires championship finale at I-30 Speedway.

After Aaron Reutzel opened the week with a triumph over a field of 66 in Wednesday night’s Second Annual Short Track Nationals Open, Brian Brown and Christopher Bell enjoyed first career STN victory lane time with prelim scores on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

With 73 different drivers from 18 states as well as the Canadian province of Ontario slugging it out over the past two nights, six drivers have already locked themselves into Saturday’s finale that offers up a minimum of $2,500 to start to go along with the lucrative winner’s share.

Bell Bags Friday STN Prelim Triumph

bellceli30102414LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (October 24, 2014) – Christopher Bell had been close to victory at I-30 Speedway before, only to come up one position short.

The 19-year-old from Norman, OK, changed that on Friday night by topping the fast and furious, non-stop 25-lap feature that put the wraps on the second night of qualifying at the track’s 27th Annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires.

Although he started from the pole position in Brandon Berryman’s All Pro Auto Reconditioning No. 31b JR1 chassis, his 23rd overall victory of 2014 didn’t come without a race-long battle with fellow Sooner State shoe Matt Covington, who paced the initial 16 laps.

“I had to work for that one,” Bell said in victory lane. “Matt drove a really good race, I was finally able to get a good run off of two to get him.”

Devil’s Bowl Speedway Postpones Dirt Track Finale Again

Wet grounds force rescheduling to November 1

WEST HAVEN, VT – Devil’s Bowl Speedway is again postponing its final dirt track stock car race of the season.  The Autosaver Ford/Springfield Buick-GMC “Vermont Freedom & Unity” event has now been moved three times from its original date due to weather-related conditions; one final attempt will be made at running the race on Saturday, November 1 at 1:00 p.m.

With steady rain in eight of the last nine days at the facility, the clay surface of the dirt track has become too saturated for crews to be able to prepare a quality racing surface in enough time for competition on Sunday afternoon.

“We want to give our racers and fans the best quality show that we can, and any attempt at running a race on Sunday would just result in a rutted, muddy track,” promoter Mike Bruno said.  “The good news is that the weather forecast looks great for next week, and we’re optimistic that we’ll be able to finish the season on a high note.”

Brown by Inches in Thursday STN Prelim!

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (October 23, 2014) – It came down to a matter of inches, as Brian Brown rallied from 14th to nip Aaron Reutzel at the line in Thursday night’s 27th Annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires 25-lap preliminary feature at I-30 Speedway.

The dramatic finish put an exclamation point on a vintage STN night in which emotions ran high, and on at least a couple of occasion, boiled over. And it was ‘only’ Thursday night.

Throughout the entirety of the race, it seemed almost a certainty that Clute, TX, racer Reutzel would nab his fourth win in as many tries atop the high-banked, ¼-mile I-30 Speedway clay oval in 2014.

Masse Leads Green to Checkered at Thompson

THOMPSON, CT — During the VMRS portion of the World Series at the Thompson Motor Speedway, Steve Masse of Bellingham, MA led the entire 75 lap distance.

Masse used his pole position start to full advantage by blasting to the lead and never looking back. Masse had to set a blistering pace just to stay in front of a charging pack of MRS heavy hitters like Ryan Preece, Woody Pitkat, Justin Bonsignore, Keith Rocco and Tommy Barrett, Jr.

Barrett started 13th and quickly moved into the top 10 by lap five, then by lap 25 Barrett sat in the fifth spot.

A lap 32 yellow flag for a crash involving Dave Schneider (Northport, NY), Norm Wrenn (Nashua, NH) and Carl Medeiros Jr.(Westport, MA.) closed up the field for the restart. Wrenn and Medeiros were not able to return to action.

Enjoying the Harvest

I was asked the other day what my most favorite season was. I responded, Autumn, a time when we enjoy the fruits of our labors. A time when we reflect on the efforts put forth. A time when we look back and remember the race we have run. Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

We always look back at the races and events we experience with a filter. Many times we remember the good times, they become bigger than life. Yes, we remember the disappointments, but soon they are replaced with the memories of better results, better days, and those victories we achieved along the way.

Autumn is a time where we can enjoy the harvest, relax and reflect on the race we have run. Paul wrote to Timothy in the autumn of his years;

ACCORD, NY – Nothing tops a hearty Thanksgiving dinner like “grandma’s gravy.”

The event made its debut last year as an overwhelming success with more than 100 race cars in the pit area at the Ulster County facility and an overflow crowd.

Fifth-place in the event pays $1,000, with $500 reserved for the 10th-place finisher and $300 just to take the green flag. Wells Conquers NEMST for First Career Championship

Texas Roadhouse North East Mini Stock Tour Presented by Twisted Tea

THOMPSON, CT (October 21, 2014) — For the first in the Texas Roadhouse North East Mini Stock Tour history the regular season closed out at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park’s World Series. Thirty-Two tour style mini stocks showed up for the Inaugural event. Two time champion Emerson Cayer entered the event 72 points behind friend and point leader Toby Wells. The closest battle within the points happened to be for the 3rd spot and Rookie of the Year. Nick Anderson and Justin Larsen were only separated by a mere 3 points.

On Friday evening teams lined up and ran their heat races with an impressive showing from Justin King moving from last to first in only 3 laps to win his heat. Larsen and Wells would also win their respective heat races in dominating fashion. The 4th year driver, King, drew an invert of 2 rows for the feature to be held on Saturday. According to NEMST procedures no current season feature winners may start in the top 10, Wells and Larsen would start 10th and 11th.

On the front row it would be Nick Maniatis and Justin King to lead the field to the green flag. After a long, long day with multiple rain showers the NEMST feature rolled onto the speedway at about 10:45 PM. The field thundered down the front stretch with tight 2,3, and 4 wide action all throughout the 32 car field. King broke out to the early lead but was in a dog fight with Maniatis that would soon include Thomas, Sonnhalter, and Larsen.

Devil’s Bowl Speedway Moves Rescheduled Date to Sunday

Parade, forecast prompt officials to move finale to Sunday, October 26 at 1:00 p.m.

WEST HAVEN, VT – Devil’s Bowl Speedway officials have announced that the facility’s final dirt track stock car race of the season will have to wait for one additional day.  The Autosaver Ford/Springfield Buick-GMC “Vermont Freedom & Unity” event was postponed by rain last week and was initially rescheduled for Saturday; however, the makeup date has been reset to Sunday, October 26 at 1:00 p.m.

Two major factors contributed to the date being readjusted: another unfavorable weather forecast, and the 55th annual Rutland Halloween Parade in Downtown Rutland, VT.  The parade is one of the area’s largest and most enjoyable community gatherings each fall, and is scheduled for Saturday, October 25.

“Many of our race fans, competitors, and officials attend and even participate in the parade every year, including those that help us with our annual Devil’s Bowl Speedway float,” track co-owner Alayne Bruno said.  “Running our race on the same day as the parade would have forced some people to choose between the two, and we want everyone to be able to enjoy both events.”

Davis Wins Southern Mod Rookie Honors

Georgia Native Is 2014 Sunoco Rookie Of The Year Award Winner

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – When a driver makes a switch from a full-bodied stock car to a modified car, one of the best things he can do is partner up with an established team to help him with his learning curve of competing in a drastically different car.

Dawsonville, Georgia, native Spencer Davis made the wise decision to team up with Hillbilly Racing and veteran car owner/crew chief David Hill and it paid immediate dividends in the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour as Davis won the 2014 Sunoco Rookie of the Year Award.

“One of the best things we did was compete with David and his Hillbilly Racing team,” he added. “I might have been a new driver, but the team has years and years of experience, and have won races and championships and they know how to get it done. They were able to use notes from previous races at tracks to set the cars up to help me each week and that is a big advantage versus me being a new driver with a new team and we all are learning for the first time together. They gave me a car ready to go each week. That was big in helping me with my transition.”
