Larry Goss Joins Stafford’s 2015 SK Light Rookie Class
Stafford Springs, CT — Longtime Late Model veteran driver Larry Goss has joined Stafford Speedway’s SK Light Modified division where he will race for R.A.D. Automachine / T/A Engines Rookie of the Year honors. Goss raced Late Models for nearly 25 years before making the switch to driving a modified for the past two and a half years at the Waterford Speedbowl. Goss also ran Late Models at Stafford in the past and he feels like he can be successful in his return to the Connecticut half-mile facility.
“I ran Late Models for almost 25 years and I used to help Moose Hewitt out with his modified,” said Goss. “Moose got me into working on Modifieds and I decided to try it and I think they’re a lot more fun to drive than the Late Model. I’m ready to go, I wish the season started up next week. I have my car and I have another car on the way from Gaston Racing so I’ll have a back-up car ready in case I need it. I know I have a car that will compete with everybody and I think we could be a top-5 car.”
While the 2015 season will be Goss’ first at Stafford in a modified, he feels confident that his experience combined with the level of equipment that he has at his disposal and the crew members that he has working alongside him, that he can be a competitive car right away.
“I’ve raced Modifieds for the last two and a half years and this will be my first time racing at Stafford in a modified,” said Goss. “I ran a Late Model at Stafford and I ended up breaking 5 ribs in a crash on the backstretch, which kind of put a damper on me racing at Stafford. I know the track and I learned from Teddy Christopher how to use the front bumper if I need to. We’re going to try it out and we’re going to run for the full season. We’d like to get a couple of wins this year, that would be nice. What I have for chassis, engine, and guys helping on the car, I think we can be pretty good. I grew up with Stash and Steve Butova and they’re going to be helping me out and they’re both pretty good guys to have on your team.”
Goss finished this past season third in the SK Light points at Waterford and he already has ideas on how he is going to have another finish in the top-5 of the points standings at Stafford.
“I’ve raced against Joey Ferrigno and Paul French before and I like to use the outside groove,” said Goss. “I know a lot of guys like to run on the bottom so if there’s a chance to go to the outside, then I’m going to go to the outside. We finished third in the standings this past year at Waterford and I’ve missed the championship in the Late Model a couple of times. We were close but we never could win one and we’d like to change that this season.”
Goss will be behind the wheel of the #88 car with sponsorship from Landon Tire, Autopart International, Columbia Body Shop, Bolton Storage. He will have his first taste of on track action at Stafford Speedway as part of the 44th Annual NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler on April 24-26. Tickets for the “Greatest Race in the History of Spring” are on sale now at the Speedway Box Office. Tickets are priced at $38.50 for adult general admission tickets, $5.00 for children ages 6-14, and children ages 5 and under are admitted free of charge when accompanied by an adult. Reserved seating is priced at $42.00 for all ages. As always, Stafford Motor Speedway offers free parking with overnight parking available. All tickets are good for both Saturday and Sunday admission. All ticket prices include 10% CT Admission Tax.
