New London-Waterford Added To Tour Slate

Conn. Oval Also Set for Whelen All-American Series Season

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – NASCAR announced today that New London-Waterford Speedbowl’s 65th season of auto racing will now include a NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event on Saturday, May 30.

The Whelen Modified Tour has visited the .375-mile oval 20 times since 1985, including each of the previous three seasons. Bobby Santos is the defending race winner at the Speedbowl.

The addition of the Mr. Rooter 161 on May 30 will give the tour 15 points events in 2015.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to return New London-Waterford Speedbowl to the calendar for 2015,” said George Silbermann, NASCAR vice president for regional and touring series. “It is great news for modified fans that new track owner Bruce Bemer and his staff desired to continue to feature the Whelen Modified Tour on the Speedbowl schedule and remain a NASCAR Home Track.”

The facility, which has gone back to its original New London-Waterford Speedbowl name following the recent change in ownership, has featured racing each year since 1951. The upcoming 2015 season will mark the 15th consecutive year of NASCAR-sanctioned weekly competition as the track will return to the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series.

The Speedbowl’s Whelen All-American Series slate will begin on Saturday, May 2. Keith Rocco is the defending NASCAR track champion out of the modified division.

The Whelen Modified Tour will open its 30th Anniversary Season on April 12 with the Icebreaker 150 at Connecticut’s Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park.
