NEAR Presented Attendance Award At Summer Knights 24th Annual Benefit Show & Shine

BERLIN, CT — The New England Antique Racers (NEAR) were presented with the coveted “Attendance Award” in honor of the clubs participation in the Summer Knights 24th Annual Benefit Show & Shine held on Sunday, April 26th at the Berlin Fairgrounds.

Displaying vintage modified stock cars were NEAR members Ron Carlson (#85 coupe), Steve Zukowski (#53 Vega), Rich Belmonte (#19 Cavalier), Jim Williams (#7NY Tom Baldwin Tribute Car), George Cleveland (#5X coupe), Tom Maciag (#19 Pinto), Carl Kierman (#222 Pinto), and Jack Proulx (#5 coupe).

The event drew several notable motorsports personalities including Ray Evernham, a former modified racer, multi-time championship Sprint Cup Crew Chief, and ESPN NASCAR television analyst. Also scheduled to appear was Sprint Cup Crew Chief Scott Zipadelli.

Representing their popular morning show airing on New Haven’s WPLR 99.1 FM were radio personalities “Chaz and AJ.” Wayne Carini of the popular “Chasing Classic Cars” also attended.

A fund-raising event, several raffle drawings were conducted offering-up a selection of racing/automotive-related items.

NEAR next appears at New Hampshire’s historic Monadnock Speedway on May 9th. The event is a running show.

A non-profit endeavor, since 1998 NEAR has inducted 196 individuals into the New England Auto Racers Hall Of Fame, which is administered by the New England Antique Racers. Some notable inductees include Richie Evans, Ron Bouchard, Bugs Stevens, Rene Charland, Pete Hamilton, Fred DeSarro, Ed Flemke, Sr. and Billy Greco among others.
