Andrews Takes Second Win at Watkins Glen

Watkins Glen, NY – Scott Andrews swept the day at Watkins Glen in the F1600 Formula F Championship Series, winning both races and two of three on the weekend. He beat Saturday winner Austin Mack to the line by one tenth of a second while Robert Megennis banked his best result of the year with a third place run.

“I can’t believe we got the double win, I didn’t see that coming,” said Andrews, who moves to a commanding points lead in the Exclusive Autosport Spectrum/Honda on three wins and six podiums in six starts. “Austin and I went really, really deep on the brakes going into the bus-stop on the last lap, I’m lucky it worked out in my favor.”

Mack was the feel-good story for the day. The K-Hill driver scored his first win on Saturday, and a Sunday morning crash in race two left the team moving quickly to repair the No. 44. Starting the race 19th, Mack was in the lead with three laps to go and again coming to the white flag.

“We won the first race, and coming from the back today, what can you say, I am happy as I can be,” noted Mack.

Megennis improved his best result of the season by three positions to complete the podium in the No. 80 Team Pelfrey Mygale/Honda.

“I thought I may have a shot at the win, but couldn’t get there in the end,” added Megennis, further explaining that Team Pelfrey rushed to put a car together for him after his Road Atlanta incident.

Ben Auriemma finished .122 seconds behind Megennis in fourth, with Jack Mitchell Jr. another two tenths behind in fifth.

A sixth place run gave Jim Goughary his best finish of the season in his Van Diemen/Honda, and the Masters Class victory in round six of the 2015 season.

Finishing third for the second time this weekend, Skylar Robinson led early but found himself shuffled backwards toward the end of the race. Robinson was able to recover to finish seventh for K-Hill Motorsports.

Art Foster was second in the Masters Class with an eighth place run, and Andy Lewis was ninth ahead of the third place finisher in the Masters division, Mike Scanlan, who was tenth overall.

Another podium and victory threat, Steve Bamford, pitted with three laps to go and did not finish the race.

After leading early from pole, Andrew Hobbs failed to finish for Team Pelfrey following an incident.

It was a day to forget for Will Harvey as the second year F1600 racer failed to finish the morning race after being involved in an accident. With the car easily repairable, Harvey did not make more than a handful of laps in the final race of the day, retiring with mechanical problems.

The F1600 season continues at VIR, June 5-7, with rounds seven, eight and nine of 21.
