SPOTTER BITES

Pretty slow this week. The modified Racing Series was at Lee USA Speedway Friday for twin 50 lap races. The idea was to have “Twin 50-lap races, an inverted line-up for the 2nd 50 lap segment, points earned going towards the series championship and combined points earned by drivers in each 50-lap race determined the overall finish for the night. This should be good, right? The first 50 laps we started mid-pack of the 23 car field. All we could muster with a slightly tight car was an 11th place finish.

The 2nd 50 lap race had us starting 12th in the field after the invert, but 2 cars ahead of us chose to go to the tail end of the field which moved us to a 10th place starting spot. I thought that the inverting of entire field was going to cause trouble on the initial start of the race. Slow cars starting on the front row is usually a recipe for disaster. It was not a disaster, but it was close. Only one car ended up with damage. Maybe they should change that part of it next time. Maybe only invert top 15 or something like that. We were allowed to do anything we wanted to do to the car during the break between segments. We made a slight change to the Dave Schneider #19 that was tight in the first 50 laps, but it was too much and the car went from a tad tight to too loose and we lost all forward drive out of the corners. We could only muster an 11th place finish. Sound familiar? Well guess what our overall finish was……yes, you guessed it 11th. Not great, but not bad. It was probably a good points night because some of those that finished ahead of us were far enough behind us in points that it didn’t hurt us overall. The next MRS race is Friday night at Stafford Speedway on June 26th.

Saturday I hopped on the ferry and crossed the pond to go to the Riverhead Raceway. I was going to spot for the Buzz Chew #8888-WMT-1 car driven by Woody Pitkat. I got there early and met everyone and made sure my radios were programmed correctly. They were, but there was no need to worry about it as Mother Nature had other plans and we never even made it out onto the track. So after the night was cancelled, I hopped into my car and drove the 3 hours around the water back home. Oh well, we will be back at Riverhead Raceway next weekend for the WMT event on Saturday June 27th.
