Andrews Doubles Up in F1600 at Mid-Ohio
Lexington, OH – Scott Andrews scored his seventh win of the 2015 F1600 Formula F Championship Series, fending off Skylar Robinson and Ben Auriemma down the back stretch on an exciting last lap at Mid-Ohio. Andrews scores his second win of the weekend, beating Auriemma to the line, with Robinson rounding out the podium.
“Wow, what a race,” said Andrews. “The team gave me an awesome car and I was lucky enough to stay in the lead nearly the whole race and hold them off. I saw one of the yellow cars flying on the outside on the last lap and braked as late as I dared and managed to pull it off.”
On his seventh win of the season in the 12th race, Andrews takes over the stat for most wins in a season, and nine races remain for the Exclusive Autosport Spectrum/Honda driver in the expanded 2015 format of the F1600 Series that sees 21 races over seven weekends.
“I had a look at the lead; I got pretty close to Skylar and Scott on the last lap. I thought we may get together but it stayed cleaned,” said Auriemma, in the No. 82 Team Pelfrey entry. “It’s been a tough weekend for me, overall, but I knew I needed to step it up this race I know I did that. I’m happy with second.”
Robinson couldn’t close after three races at Mid-Ohio where he was in the mix for the race victory each time, finishing on the podium in third after a second place run in the morning race and fourth place finish on Saturday.
“I had a pretty good run on Scott coming out of turn one, I tried a couple times to go around him on the back straight a couple times earlier and it wasn’t working,” explained Robinson, driving the No. 12 K-Hill Motorsports car. “I figured my best shot was in Key Hole and I kind of made the move stick but he started picked up speed and got past me as well as Ben.”
Andrew Hobbs and Robert Megennis completed the top five in another pair of Pelfrey cars, followed by their teammate and morning race winner Jordan Cane, who failed to repeat his breakthrough victory that came just hours before.
Kyle Kirkwood was seventh for Chastain Motorsports, with Steve Bamford winning the Masters Class in eighth, and coming through the field after going off course early. While Austin Mack and Will Harvey completed the top ten, Bamford was in the thick of it battling with Goughary and Foster, who finished among the second grouping of cars in 11th and 12th after a daring fight in the closing laps with Bamford, as well as Mack and Harvey.
Jason Wolfe retired midway through the race, while David Grant brought out a full course caution after getting stuck in a gravel trap but was able to rejoin the race.

With three races at Mid-Ohio in the books, the F1600 Series now moves onto the brand new three-mile high-speed road course at Pittsburgh, July 31-August 2, rounds 13, 14 and 15 of the 2015 season.
